Maybe - but I can’t see any of these players getting much game time under JB. I think there is a good player in there somewhere with McCormick but with the signing of Bogarde & Woods he’s dropped down the pecking order and didn’t even make the bench yesterday. Bit of an odd one to leave him out of the squad yesterday, especially with the hindsight of seeing how poor both Finley & Ward were. Id have agreed about Finley up until yesterday but thought he had a decent game. Won tackles, Kept possession and played some decent forward passes which werent capitalised on. Ironically most of the subs didnt do a lot bar give away possession.

We hardly created anything after the subs, even with 10 mins AET the only chance we really created was around the Brown penalty appeal. Let's see if we're more creative with a new CF, as neither Collins nor Marquis seem capable of getting the better of physical CB's.

I really like Ward, I think he has real quality for a pass and loves a tackle. Just him in the DCM role is fine. When Bogarde game on, every ball he had he looked to move it forward or to the wings, same with Evans. Finley isn’t the new scapegoat for me, he’s just not L1 level anymore. no doubt about it he’s an absolute dog still who fights away and you’ll need him for 15 mins at the end of a scrappy game, similar to Wycombe, but when you’re winning and protecting a lead rather than trying to get in front or come from behind.

Otherwise you are so wrong. The last subs were made on 77 mins, first shot on target 83 mins. Crama shot cleared off line, should have been the equaliser. We literally had infinitely more chances after the subs came on than we did before the subs.

Belshaw (imo no logical reason to have dropped him, certainly quality in Div 1)
Hunt Wilson (captain) Taylor Friend
Woods
Thomas Bogarde Evans Collins

If anything he seems to be slower to react to shots

If anything he seems to be slower to react to shots Decent save for the one he tipped over the bar, but I agree nothing special to warrant wasting another wage on a goalie. I wonder how his confidence will hold up if he keeps conceding goals & losing games?

Brown hit the post in the first half and could have also gone better with the shot he blasted over the bar. I can't see there was that great an improvement once the subs came on, what is noticeable is that neither Collins, Marquis, Sinclair or Thomas had a decent, or even poor, attempt on goal.

There was a lovely through ball played by Finley down the left side of the box in the second half (cant remember who it was to). Midfielders are getting criticised when there is very little movement ahead of them. Was that the same Bogarde who went down far too easily to conceded possession and ultimately the 2nd crucial goal? Evans almost did the same nearer to his own box at one point but got away with it

Cox looks a fine young keeper .Why would anyone want Belshaw back other than the fact he was a fans favourite? Now is not the time to be criticising any players as the selection after the window closes will be more important. Early results are always mixed and why cant supporters (a very inappropriate description of some) give the new players a chance to bed in and see where they take us.

Do other teams say the same about bedding in? Charlton have sacked their manager after 5 games and they could also say wait until the players bed in. We had one season when that was correct and one season when that wasn't correct (as last season, we got worse the more we bedded in!). Let's give it 20 games. We have to stop the home defeats.

I like Finley and he has been an integral part of a couple of decent seasons for us but I was surprised when Barton made him captain this season as for me, I am not even sure he makes the squad if everyone was fit. It seems Barton this season favours a 4-2-3-1 and I would rather have Ward, Woods (on paper at least), Bogarde, Evans and Rossiter ahead of him in those 2 deeper midfield spots.
I am not saying he has actively caused us to drop points this season as from memory, I don't think he has at all. However, with other partnerships in there, I think we could do so much better, particularly offensively. He was part of an incredible season a couple of years ago which finished with the 7-0 win but we can not live on sentiment if we truly want to be a top L1 club with promotion aspirations.

You mean the one where Bogarde was rugby tackled from behind?

Any team who sack their Manager after 5 games having given the Manager funds to change the team are fools. Last season we over achieved in the first half of the season but achieved our objective reasonably easy in the end. I totally agree that we have to stop the home defeats and am confident we will with the players and the squad we have. We have only played two home games-one was a very good performance that should have been about 5-1 and Saturdays game which based on the start should have been a match we won but we were caught out with a goal against the run of play . These things happen in football. Two dubious refereeing decisions probably cost us three points. There is no reason to start worrying yet.
