I have no idea if we are in for JCH or not, but on the assumption we don’t sign him, who would people be happy with as an alternative? On another thread I saw someone mention Tom Eaves which I thought was a decent shout.

If you are referring to a direct like for like CF to JCH *style*, I'd go for the following as they'd be within our budget:
Luke Armstrong - Harrogate Town
Callum Hendry - Salford City
Mo Eisa - MK Dons
Jayden Stockley - Fleetwood Town
Jack Marriott - Fleetwood Town
Ben House - Lincoln City
Danny Ward - Huddersfield Town
Ryan Hardie - Plymouth Argyle
Freddie Ladapo - Ipswich Town

Kyle Hudlin…would make a change to have a striker who made opposing keepers look small!

I've always rated Devante Cole.
On fire this season so far though with 5 goals in 5 games.
And very much doubt he's available.

Connor Wickham showed what he can potentially do with his performances in a poor Forest Green team (9 goals in 20 apps) and available on a free. Stephen Humphrys would be excellent, but location might be an issue. Samson Tovide is a good prospect at Colchester Utd. Not a similar type to JCH, but Jack Marriott would score goals in this team.
