The key to securing a late transfer deal is to have in place a club secretary who knows what they are doing. In the last 27 years we had Roger Brinsford and the Dave Sams, the latter being trained by the former. After Dave left we then had someone in the post for a matter of months, has he been replaced properly?
This is a vital position within a football club.
Kind regards

The testimony for Dave was within a few days of leaving the gas he had two offers from clubs inviting him to take up their secretary's positions, you cant beat having someone with 20 years experience, he declined both, was it Alan Hanson who said you don't win anything with kids, his replacement was a 21 year old with no experience he only lasted a few months, I've no idea who is secretary there now, it's a 24/7 position, I know its a little chaotic behind the scenes people don't last long even the the catering side had three leave in the past few weeks.

Do we even have a secretary? We once had a good one but let him go, his young successor left because he was a naughty boy. It’s such an important but under appreciated role.
Will we find out if this played a part in the JCH deal failing? I doubt BRFC will provide an explanation so love him or loathe him McAnthony is probably our only hope of finding out what happened!!

Like I said on the JCH thread, club should have had staff in Portsmouth ready to seal the deal.

Like I said on the JCH thread, club should have had staff in Portsmouth ready to seal the deal. We’re an average League 1 football team with a catchment area mostly in a 30 mile radius of BS7, not bloody PSG!!! Stick to playing Football Manager.

Come off it mate league clubs do it all the time meet up at a selected point to seal a deal, sports centre , hotell not as if we haven't enough staff, team coaches, physio, admin staff. If we don't travel beyond 30 miles how do we get to away matches?

Do you think it’s hard to send staff to that location? It’s two hours down the road not abroad. We were clearly all in on him so it’s a shame they weren’t better prepared

At the end of the day, none of us have any idea why the deal failed at this point.
Did Rovers f**k something up? Very possibly.
BUT....
- Could be JCH's agent believed he had us over a barrel and requested more agent fees right before the deadline and we refused to budge - Could be JCH himself believed he had us over a barrel and requested more wages right before the deadline and we refused to budge - Could be he failed his medical or, at the very least, something warranted further checks that we didn't have time for at the 11th hour, and so we felt we had no choice but to pull the plug - Could be DMacc decided to raise the price at the very, very end, expecting us to grudgingly agree and we understandably refused
The reality is that at this point we have no idea. And as such, we should probably refrain from mud slinging until we know more.
Ultimately the longer Rovers stay silent, the more likely it is that we f**ked something up. If we didn't, I'm sure we'll hear about it...

As well as a decent Club Secretary and now (apparently) new HR staff, we also need new PR.... ...not sure why but more and more the club is choosing to stay quiet when a simple but well thought-out press release would benefit both them and the fans....

Can anybody tell us why Mr Sams departed as club secretary? I knew his name, although never had any dealings with him - seemed like he just got on and did his job in the background, with no fuss or c*ck ups.

I knew his name, although never had any dealings with him - seemed like he just got on and did his job in the background, with no fuss or c*ck ups. It was never disclosed but given he left pretty quickly perhaps there were issues which, rightly, will never be disclosed in public? As far as JCH is concerned do Club Secretary's really have any involvement in transfers, as I thought we had a recruitment team dealing with that?
