Last night showed what a weak link Finley is in the team.
Bogarde, Evans, Woods, playing progressive football. Trying to get us on the front foot, moving the ball around nice, working hard. Finley hasn't been at the races all season long.
What does he add to this side?
Mistake to make him captain.
He can go out on loan in January as far as I'm concerned.
There are better footballers like Grant Ward and McCormick who deserve to be sniffing around on the bench for that shirt.

I don't agree with that.
Finley IS a good footballer, we saw that with his first season and a half at the club.
One of the better midfielders we've had in recent years in fact.
This season he's been off the boil, but he's not been playing terribly. He's had a couple of good games.
It could be the pressure of the captaincy, or it could be the way the team is tactically set up.
With the midfield so stacked with good options, a spell on the bench for a few games could do him some good.
Hastily getting rid of the captain and a key figure in the dressing room is not the right approach though, Finley still has a lot to contribute IMO.

Finners was my favourite player in the L2 season. We just didnt seem to play well if he didnt.
However, I dont think he has been anywhere near the same level in L1. His goals have dried up too and I dont think he is going to get us where we need to be sadly.

I second that!! Not a fan of his at all.

As DC said to me the other week when he was watching Barnsley, he’s a dog that you can bring on to see out a game when it’s tight but he’s not going to win you promotion anymore.
And that’s exactly how I’ve seen him since last year. No longer the box to box player he was, not sharp enough to have the vision to spot gaps quick enough and doesn’t have the Lines range of passing to fall back on that Linesy did.
We have much better options now and my preferred set up would be
Woods Bogarde/Ward Evans/LMc

Last night showed nothing of the sort! Over the season so far, perhaps he's not been at his best but last night he was effective in a slightly more forward position than he has been playing.

Finley hasn't been at the races all season long.
All season long, eh? Phew, you sure it's been that long? So, you mean - not jut a few matches, but ...... all .... season .... long. Wow. That's mega-shyte, then. Times two.

Intriguing.
Choosing your forum name. Good option. Easy names to recall for you.
Choosing your thread title. Well received in OTIB. Slamming Rovers captain. BS3 like this.

Agreed Bogarde, Evans, Woods and co looked very good last night But they were allowed the space to do so due to the nature of the game and opposition, think Finley would have looked good in that game but i do believe a change is needed for next league game.

Think Finley and Woods are good for the Coutts type role, Mccormick and Evans can run with the ball and get into dangerous areas. Bogarde can do all of it, as well as win the ball. Ward is similar to Bogarde, not sure if we've seen the best of Ward yet, still think he's a bit off full fitness? Different type of midfielder for different games, Finley will play a part in the season, but I'd rather he played Evans or Mccormick who can get up and down the pitch.

Finley is a very good player, he’s the only one with an ounce of Aggression which I think can all agree is needed at times

My instinctive reaction is to wince a bit when g81 names the important people he's been speaking to, like Wael, TG and DC, but on reflection I think it's refreshing. He comes straight out and names his sources instead of pussyfooting around and saying things like 'someone I can't name but who is close to the situation'.

As others have said Finley offers us something that few others in the midfield are capable of doing in terms of his aggression, the issue is that we as a team have stopped setting up that way since part way through last season. Early last season, we had a few guys who were up for a bit of a scrap in the middle and then get the ball out as quickly as possible to our footballers, whilst this made some players such as Evans look poor as they weren't up to the more physical style, we've now gone the other way and ended up with a team of more technically focused player which leaves Finley as the odd man out.
I know I've not summarised my loose thoughts well there, but my overall thought on Finley this year is that he'll suit certain oppositions and look terrible against the rest.

Last night showed nothing of the sort! Over the season so far, perhaps he's not been at his best but last night he was effective in a slightly more forward position than he has been playing. I thought he was superb in the first half against Lincoln, and was only subbed as JB worked out that woods/Finley/Bogarde are all a bit samey and you need an Evans in there to give some attacking prowess. This will sound odd but I think centre mids with little scuttling legs are really important. Evans is too gangly often for that packed centre mid role, you need Terrier like qualities as it involved a lot of intricate footwork and a very quick start over 3 yards. Can’t ever remember a really good centre mid who’s really tall….Vierra possibly? The list of little ones is endless. In the Lincoln game Finley played an amazing first time chip into Collins for a shot which had it gone in would have been goal of the season. A bit unfairly maligned.

Once he's booked, which is quite often, he's got to be subbed. Rovers conceded soon after that happened Saturday. I wouldn't want him playing against Rovers. But there are more gifted players. And if Rossiter was fit, I think Finley may have left.
