I presume that your boss doesn't get questioned by the press about your team's performance on a regular basis, football is not a normal environment in many ways. Ferguson wasn't adverse to throwing tea cups or the odd boot at players, I wouldn't have expected my boss to do that if I'd made a mistake. These are well paid people Tilly and dealing with the media is part of the job. I do think, personally, that some are not cut out for this, despite their personal prowess as a player. I would put Barton in that group. I guess different people have preferences, I sometimes find it boring to hear interviews with people who stick to the media training manual. |

I get that, but that's not the point. It's less about the delivery (although it's alarmingly easy to mock Barton), but what is actually said. Politicians have learned this so say absolutely nothing). Sometimes, no often, it would be better if Barton learned this lesson. |

I was not at the match but just watched the highlights. I get that JB was annoyed because of the halftime injury (not reported) situation but to blame LT for the 2nd goal is ridiculous - and to try and get gasheads on his side by suggesting the LT should refund the fans is equally ridiculous. If he really wants to go down the blame route he should be asking what Hunt and Grant were doing before the goal was scored, why Collins missed a sitter etc etc. Seems to me that JB is beginning to feel the pressure and trying to create an environment whereby if we are not doing well by Christmas he can walk away blaming everyone except himself.

Not defending JB, but read this snippet from a article Luke Thomas did when we resigned him, still think it was OTT but perhaps Luke might not be as upset as many may think.
Just him [Barton] as a person, he's really caring but firm when he needs to be. I really like that side of him because I'm one of those who need to be told when I've done well and when I'm not doing the right thing and when I'm not up to standard so I think the manager here is really good for that for me. It can only be positive for myself."

Just watched the highlights.... Whilst JT does stop, I don't really think he could have got back to have a meaningful affect on the attack anyway.. On JBs comments, he had done this so many times now, it is going to lose it's purpose and people will just start to say oh well there he goes again. It's almost like he thinks we should be top six and he's done his bit, so it must be someone else's fault.... I don't think I've ever heard him put his hands up and say 'my fault, I was wrong' Like JB said, he shouldn't have been committing forwards if he was not feeling right. As predicted, many only see the RB getting skinned, the cross, the goal. Even within that there are bits of good and bad play. JB knows what he's talking about, his delivery after the match and about 1 player is a bit off. However he knows what each player should doing at each stage of a sequence, so if he is saying that LT is in the wrong for that goal, that's what it is. If that's come about because the player doesn't admit to a niggle at the end of HT and says it just as they are coming back out, that is poor from the player! Alot of chat goes on at HT in terms tactical adjustments, subs being warned off, instructions to cover or press, players being given minutes until a set time for legs, VO2 max or to wear down a particular opponent pre-sub. It also seems like there's more to it than just yesterday. Bring given chances and sorting himself out etc is deeper than a tight muscle.. This looks equally Fake news then? It's bizarre you could post this yesterday, then suggest he's a bully and needs to got today. |

It was wrong, in my opinion, to go after LT like that in public. Take Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest of all time in my eyes. He fiercely protected his players in public, blaming anyone or anything other than his own men. Behind closed doors, he wouldn’t be afraid to tell it as it was, but not in public to the press. That’s the way it should be in my opinion. think you will find he did sometimes. Difference is in the era he managed it wasn't dissected for weeks on end by a forums covenant of football managers, psychiatrists and witchfinder generals I can’t remember a time when Ferguson laid the blame of a defeat solely on one player or called a player out in the press. |
