If we want to learn from history, and 1948 is a key milestone, we can't set an arbitrary date as it would fail to acknowledge why Isreal is in fear too.

We also would need to understand why Jerusalem is sacred to three monotheistic religions but only controlled by one, that goes back further.

We have take both side's issues seriously.

Not sure the two state solution is still workable but it's going to have to be a start. Bringing in other regional players is a must, including Iran, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States. They also have responsibility here as fellow agitators, including in Syria and Yemen.

Perhaps the likes of Egypt and Jordan could take a lead as they have feet in both camps, so to speak.

I like the symbolism, shows who is in charge and a reminder that democracy isn't guaranteed.

As we've seen elsewhere, autocracy is only complacency away.

I'd rather see "some bloke" with a crown on his head maintaining a 500+ year old tradition than seeing a 78 year old veteran being punched and kicked because he's selling Poppys. I'd rather see a peaceful remembrance day (a UK tradition), you know when the UK remember those who gave their lives for our freedom, than seeing it ruined by a bunch of pro Palestine supporters.

In a proper democratic constitution the people would vote for a monarchy. Our has come about by force, the current incumbents by agreement of an unelected (in the main) elite, over the centuries.

What proof do you have for that except something written in the daily Mail ?

Hang on Oldie, Yatton bought up the king wearing a crown and people using foodbanks and no doubt by some will be patted on the back and told how right he is. But I'm not allowed to compare the king wearing a crown and veterans being attacked and the threat of remembrance day parades being ruined. Seems somewhat one sided to me.

Can't believe you've just typed that Yatton. So you would rather see the Cenotaph desecrated by a baying left wing mob than seeing people trying to protect it. It's not only people from the right who remember our fallen heroes.
