This will be more complex than the simple headline. There's a chess match going on and some of the peices are in disguise. Sure Trolldie and his Anglo-Iranian sons will have insight but it might be biased.. The UK and USA feel a bit weak to me at the moment. We've an unelected PM who is out of favour and can't assert himself. The USA have a premier who can hardly walk let alone impose the nations prowess on anything. Trump is going to shake that up over the next few months. We seem obliged to have a say in each and every international incident without the ability to execute any pressure at all. The old enemies have not been in a better position for decades. "Sure Trolldie and his Anglo-Iranian sons will have insight but it might be biased." Touched a nerve have I? Nah, I'm only pulling your plonker.

Nah, I'm only pulling your plonker. By invoking my children...right. Yes. You brought them into it, so they are involved now. If they're over 18 which I'm going to guess they are, it's fair game. Also considering my post was polite and relevant to the exchange.. If you'd prefer me to delete that, I will of course?

An oil tanker is on fire in the Red Sea after a missile attack by Houthi fighters. In a statement, the ship's owner Trafigura, which has offices in Britain, said firefighting equipment on board was being deployed to control the flames and the safety of the crew is its "foremost priority". A spokesperson for the commodities giant, said: "Earlier on 26 January, the Marlin Luanda, a petroleum products tanker vessel operated on behalf of Trafigura, was struck by a missile as it transited the Red Sea. "Firefighting equipment on board is being deployed to suppress and control the fire caused in one cargo tank on the starboard side. "The safety of the crew is our foremost priority. "We remain in contact with the vessel and are monitoring the situation carefully. Military ships in the region are underway to provide assistance." news.sky.com/story/oil-tanker-on-fire-in-red-sea-after-missile-attack-by-houthi-fighters-13057225

Pretty quiet on here since the Iranian backed Houthis have now targeted a British owned vessel. Are posters supporting the Houthis? Since they ate campaigning for a liberated Palestine and all.. Backed by Iran.. Eternal enemies of the West.

Not sure this is anything other than window dressing in the short term as modifications would likely take months, if not years.

This is drones and UAVs right. So a bit of a waste of money to put Billions of pounds in amongst it. This is Iran being a nuisance, watched by Russia of course.

Apparently land attack missiles, the inference is Tomahawk but that requires extra fitting. Not quick nor cheap. Most likely a modified Norwegian one, useful but pure tokenism in this case.

So whilst Iran (in theory) supports international trade, freedom to traverse international waters, etc etc, we know they are supporting the Houthis to attack ships in this area, for no other reason than they don't like Western politics. ...most people in the West don't like Western politics, but to attack these vessels is an act of war - and the only reason we don't want to call Iran out on this is that the West doesn't want to start World War Three anytime soon. Not sure what Iran wants...

Not sure what Iran wants... What the people of Iran want and what the Theocratic Fascists in power want are not necessarily the same thing. From a humanitarian angle the general population suffered hugely from the sanctions imposed upon Iran, shortages of medicines, food shortages, crucial spare parts etc. We could lift those, although with the rise of China and the opportunism of Russia since the 80s I don't think the situation is as bad as it once was. What the fascists want is harder to discern. The theologians want to spread the teaching of Islam, the hard line nutters in the Revolutionary Guard want revenge. They are not always aligned. Killing them, one by one, will get us nowhere, mass killing pushes the population into the arms of the hard line nutters.

Iran is funding others to attack Western interests. The relationship between Iran and the US is not very strong. Iran is mates with Russia. Makes the West sad. The West is mates with Saudi. Makes Iran sad. Iran and Saudi often butt heads. Israel is mates with the West. Palestine is a buddy of Iran and Saudi. Alas, it's all Americas fault but you lived there so.. There you go. Apologies for creating a potential conflict of emotions for you.

Just thought I'd catch everyone up on what's going on in the Red Sea lately...
On Monday 19th, Houthi fighters claimed to have sunk the Rubymar near the Bab al-Mandab strait - operated by the Blue Fleet Group and UK registered. It's actually not sunk, just badly damaged and they are trying to tow it to Djibouti.
The Houthis say their attacks in the Red Sea are a show of support for the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which is a weird claim for them to make given we've been told by some they were "...not in it..." and claims they were were just "...tub thumping headlines..." by "...the propaganda machine..."
Good news it that it appears all the crew are safe and sound.
Houthi rebels also said they have targeted an 'Israeli cargo ship' (the MSC Silver, not actually Israeli but travels to the country a lot) near the entrance to the Red Sea with a number of missiles, as well as using drones to target a number of United States warships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. French and US militaries continue to shoot down Houthi-launched attack drones almost daily and at some point we have to ask where the rebels are getting all these weapons from as they/Yemen were not known to have such large reserves of these kinds of devices....

They are not in it. They are just proxies for Iran backed forces in the region. One ship gets hit and it's all over the news. Meanwhile how many women and children died in Gaza over the last week.... I did laugh. Cameron waxing lyrical a couple of weeks ago talking air power to take down Houthis rag tag and bobtail missile threats Ummmmmmmm......
