Needed the dust to settle a bit to gather my thoughts at this. Still can't believe Joey has gone. He's been massively instrumental in raising the standards at the clubs and I'm sure he was the main driving force behind the training ground and striving for continual improvement at the club.
At long last we had someone who wanted to shake up the club and get it to where we want it to be. For too long we've pottered along with too many people in the boardroom and in the stands happy to accept mediocrity. I think Joey genuinely believed he could get us to the next step and help build the the club on and off the field to championship standard.
On the pitch, while he didn't always get it right, he attracted the best players we've seen in years, playing some of the best football I've seen in my 40+ years of following the Gas. I'm sure that once he has a full squad fit and raring again we'd be climbing the table.
Can only thank the man for giving us Gasheads belief. Just hope the next man can do the same.

Whatever our personal feelings about JBās exit, can anyone put their hand on their heart and say they have complete confidence in the new owners to pick the right replacement? Cos I donāt. I have seen/heard nothing that suggests these people have the first clue about football, let alone the capacity to choose someone to manage/coach the team to get to where we want to be. Itās only a feeling, based on nothing concrete, but I think they will end up giving the job to someone who āinterviews wellā and turns out to be Garninho Mk 2. Iām not sure they will take the feelings of the players into account either and will probably just view them as purely employees or component parts, who will do what theyāre supposed to regardless of the person in charge. And we all know that life (and especially sports) ājust aināt like thatā. Canāt help feeling uneasy about this, sorry.

Good on him.

Joey had been here under 3 years, it was a project, football wise you could see what he was building, we are missing a striker in this side that is it. We are now scrapping it and starting again because we are not in the playoffs in October. Really really poor decision making, can't be trusted to use a fax machine to secure a record transfer, what hope do they have of picking someone who is a well connected, standard raising, passionate and Successful.

No experience of football in this country so how on earth will they be able to make the right appointment? Hopefully they will be taking advice? Not sure from whom though!

Clubs with long term success have a vision and philosophy that runs through the whole system and builds on previous work even with a change of manager. Starting again with random choices (as we did for many years) can give short term success but usually leads to long term decline.
Purely based on football I think sacking Barton makes no sense but if we appoint someone likely to build on what he started I can forgive the decision. The next choice will reveal how much vision is coming from the club and ho much change has been driven purely by the motivation of managers (Clarke and Barton) rather than anything greater than that.

Completely agree. JB essentially overhauled everything at the club, which ultimately resulted in Starnes and Tommy Widdrington leaving the club. This to me at the time felt like a total abandonment of whatever strategy that was in place then, which I think was essentially "suck it and see" philosophy with each appointment, was thrown out. This struck me as the club openly admitting that they had no idea what they were doing. Now that JB has gone, what strategy do we have now? Time will tell, but I'm not optimistic.

Yea I'm not at all optimistic either. Always felt like DC singlehandedly dragged the club out of the pits to a basic level of professionalism and Barton then to another level again. If Barton had followed on directly from DC without the shambles in between I'd have more faith in some kind of a plan.

Like many areas of modern life itās the minority making most of the noise and getting carried away with their perceptions of self importance. Iāve seen lots of managers sacked (both at Rovers and elsewhere) and in most cases there is a gradual growing and vocal expression of dissatisfaction towards the manager. Those attending games are the most important and I didnāt sense 95% of the crowd were demanding his sacking.Ā It's worth noting that Rovers fans are incredibly passive. Some of the absolutely absurd stuff that's happened with regards to running the club this century has been reacted to with a collective sigh and shrug. It's a rarity that Gasheads do much more than that. Yes I totally agree,I was going to do something about the apathy but I just couldn't be bothered š

This cannot be only for footballing reasons. Have i missed where the club explain exactly how they have reached this decision?
