It has been said this is one of the best squads we have put together. Whilst i dont agree with that, we certainly have a lot of good players and are pushing a top budget for BRFC. It is not a well balanced squad though. Missing pieces. Injury prone. And no real plan for what formation should be and our first 11. My view ahead of a critical January for what is likely to be a new manager
GK - Cox should be a back up. Need a replacement no1 in Jan (assuming Belly moves on) and next season Ward should be our "Cox".
RB - Hunt is great and will hopefully stay fit. Hoole and Gibbons decent back up. Not sure why Gibbons didnt start last night but then almost lost it when he came on. No big requirement for Jan. Summer will need something more permanent
LB - Awful decisions made here. Need a new LB top of the list in Jan. Friend ok as back up with Gordon a longer term prospect, maybe loan him out.
CB - Build around Taylor for years to come. If Wilson out again, we need a new CB in Jan. Crama ok as a back up. Get Connolly back in the summer, with 2 perm signings. Not a good enough squad here to challenge right now.
MID - Ok for this season, but need to plan for next. Only Evans and McCormick our players and not about to retire due to age or injuries. Would love Bogarde back but only going to happen if we are in the champ. Prefer playing with 3 in the middle.
Attack - Collins, Sinclair, Martin, Marquis, Vale, Brown. Wow. This is why people say we have a great squad, but although all have scored and played a part, there seems to be no idea how best to play these players. Do we get a new striker in place for Martin in Jan or wait for the summer? Not sure JCH these days will give much more than Martin does to justify 500+

All I see from Cox is the ability to pass short on a goal kick or tika taka at the back Can't kick long, catch or stop a shot. Get he has to learn but not from us.this has too be the first transfer target in January as a permanent signing

Seems we appear to be light in quality (but not necessarily in numbers) in goal and left back, possibly a bit pedestrian alongside both Taylor in defence and Evans in midfield.
Depending on Martin's situation, we may be fine up front but perhaps a symbolic signing?
I'm not sure we are going to sign more than two or three in January but the new manager will want to be backed.
Interesting times ahead (then repeat in the summer).
Are we looking at too great a turnover of players? 12 or more last summer, some of whom won't be here come August 2024.

Last night he passed it straight to the opposition twice in ten minutes a better team would have punished us for sure.

Maybe he could roll the ball out to either full back who in turn could play it down the channel, i believe in trying to play football in your oppositions half instead of p1ss ballsing around with it in our own penalty area.

For me the idea is there and we have the players to do it successfully but our application at the best of times is horrendous. See Finley last night, acres of space, receives a rolled out ball from Cox, plays it 10 yards straight to a home shirt who didn’t have a rovers player within 20 yards of him. That particular moment probably received the biggest groan of the night. Up there with Collins shocking excuse for a through ball to JB when we were in for a big chance.

I agree with Dude.
The passing game I like, if we became a hoof ball side, we would complain about that as it has been seen down the Mem before and it isn't pretty.
We lack the conviction to make that final pass, the right players supporting in the right areas.
If we passed the ball as we do, creating the same amount of chance, but actually got to the final third and stuck the ball in the net, there would be no complaints about passing that ball about the back.
We are very wasteful going forward, we don't have a midfield that are consistent, particularly in the middle, there are players in the 11 that now deserve time on the bench, sorry but Collins, Finley and others need a wake up call.
I think the owners need to go back to Posh on their knees and beg that they let JCH join us. If we can find some better CMs then let's do that too.

Absolutely this, the 10 long kicks we pumped up last night we lost all 10… I really don’t understand not rating Cox, his kicking long is really consistent for goalkeeper and often he does this under pressure as it isn’t his first choice or option. Keep possession should be the way to play and it is definitely not the goalkeeper or defenders fault we go nowhere, as people are starting to allude to on here, it is 100% the midfielders fault, not knowing how to receive the ball on the half turn or how to find the space shows a lack of awareness. A lot of professional footballers do not have the required awareness to really cut it, they get away with it just through their other attributes. Bogarde has the best awareness of any of our midfield along with Evans, Bogarde is still slightly scatty at times and Evans doesn’t always seem to be in favour for one reason or another. Woods has potential there but is so immobile it makes me look sharpe.

He’s been doing triple training sessions so he can hit the ground running when he joins us on 1st January - unfortunately that’s left him too tired to start for P’Boro 😁

The midfield should be offering themselves to our keeper when he has no choice but to kick to midfield when wide options are not there. It seems to me there is no movement but static ball watching in midfield when the tippy tappy starts at the back. Cox is clearly better than Belly in this area. Earlier in the season in the friendlies Belly’s distribution was awful, he looked like a rabbit in the headlights when the tippy tappy at the back was happening.

Browns time at Exeter is looking like a blip. I think there is a good player inside but has been underwhelming.

Do we have a throw in coach ?
Definitely an area we could improve.

Not sure what is going on at POSH, but JCH hasn't started for their last three league games. There manager and owner have said quite clearly in public recently that the reason JCH is on the bench is that they want to play with much more pace in the centre, hence the likes of Ricky Jade Jones playing the central role. They want JCH to leave in January and have said that on many occasions.

Before discussing the individuals need to set our style and formation. For example don't think Evans can play in the middle two in 4 4 2 but can play in the middle of three in 4 2 3 1.
