I agree, the defence was so poor last season I don't think it was fair to judge Belshaw on that and I think if he's in between the sticks with Taylor and Wilson in front of him he'll be a better keeper.
MC needs competition and I think Belshaw would be great for it.
MC isn't a bad keeper but I thought he was brought in for his short and long range passing ability which isn't great and I don't think he commands the area very well. Just goes mad after the opposition scores.
Glad Belshaw is returning

Regardless of the quality of the defenders in front of them, goalkeepers can be assessed on their ability to stop shots that they were expected to. As the stats have shown and the eye could see, Belly was unfortunately one of the worst keepers in the division last season and that's even before we account for his reckless misjudged rushes from goal. He'll forever be a great part of our D2 promotion team but anyone who thinks he can cut it at this level needs their eyes tested.

I assume the reasons to extend the "emergency" loan ran out, rather than rovers recalling him. Love the man, but better for him and us if he moves to FGR permanently in Jan i think. Ward deserves a go now we have cut his loan short! Or let him go back in Jan and bring in someone more experienced

I don't think there is much to choose between Cox & Belshaw. They both have different strengths and weaknesses.
Some have said Cox hasn't cost us as many goals as Belshaw did last season but it's not as simple as that. There have been numerous occasions Cox has passed straight to an opposition player which could have led to us conceding a goal. I feel like Belshaw got punished for almost every little error last season.
I also can't remeber many occasions where I thought Cox was outstanding or was a major factor in us winning a game or taking a point. There have been a number of games Belshaw has been instrumental in us picking up points, even last season.
Personally, I would edge towards Belshaw and if it means we can send Cox back to Brnetford and free up some wages to strengthen the team in other areas, then I'd say it makes sense.
Long term, I'm not sure either are the answer.

I think in the long term Cox will be a very good keeper but in the time he’s likely to be available for us there will probably be better options out there? FWIW I don’t dislike either and would have no issue with either playing through to the end of this season. (I’m not convinced Jed Ward will be ready yet - a league two loan next year would be great for him and us). January priority is left back and CB (if playing a back 3/5) as well as a striker.

How can anybody forget the shocker Belshaw had in his last EFL Trophy game?
Perhaps MT will have a different POV but I'd have thought the sooner Belshaw leaves the better and he can then access the goalie situation in the summer, assuming Cox isn't recalled by Brentford.

Done continously by long shots . Flapped at crosses . Thought he was a sweeper & got caught out . But waved to Thatchets End . No thanks . Player of the year during the promotion season. Yes please.

WTF.....maybe Taylor said Lose the attitude or * off Or he'd rather keep his L1 wages and be playing in the first team every match, over coming back to warm the bench for a teenager. And, I think that says a lot about Belly - in that he wants to be turning out and getting minutes between the sticks. Commendable! Saying that, my personal jury is still out on both Matt Cox and Belly, and whether to get Belly back or not!

I wonder if Cox has something in his contract about how many games he has to play with is etc. I'm not saying he's a bad keeper or anything but you can understand why Belshaw might have got watered off with the situation if it was something like this as it was similar when we had Balcombe on loan from Brentford. Belshaw's a decent keeper, no better or worse. He played the fans, we're a sucker for someone that tries to arouse the fans

I like Belly' and I'd love to have seen him have a better bite of the Cherry. Obviously the powers that are don't feelnthe same
