I’ll struggle to drag myself to the remaining home games if we don’t make any signings. If the club aren’t arsed about the rest of the season, why should I be?

Let's see the intention of our club today?. We gone from a high of having 800k avaliable in the last window with no departures . Fast forward 800k income from Collins & Loft and around 7 departures.
We spent 300k thus far meaning we made a profit of around 500k. If you add on the so called 800k eye-watering bid and 500k profit. That's about 1.3 mil floating around.
Will it be the same rovers today or a rovers showing intent and ambition?.

I'm not saying that's the whole 1.3 million but I'm also guessing it wasn't cheap. Was Martin before or after the window? Not sure if we need to count a signing on fee for him too.

Criminal if our owners are prepared to take big money for Collins and not bring in a replacement now, not in the Summer. Fair play for signing up Martin for the season but we clearly need another goal threat and considering we have unloaded several players from the wage bill, money must be surely available. But a challenge is that the big money won't be clearing our losses, which could easily have risen to £5m this year. Wael was prepared / able to fund the £3m p.a. losses, but perhaps needed some other shareholders to shoulder the burden, hence his share sale. I'm not sure the new majority owners are prepared to take on larger losses. JCH allegedly wanted £12k a week at Charlton, £625k a year ... how many season tickets do we have to sell to cover that ? PS - Alas i have no answer to the madness of football finances nowadays apart from a very, very rich owner

Not even a rumour of any signings. Never know such a rumourless last day of a window. A week or two back there was talk of a couple of signing in addition to Conteh. Now nothing. Club either keeping things very close to their chests or a case of managing with what we have a pray there are no more injuries. High risk strategy if no additions in defense or attack.

If sacking Barton as used up all the budget ( as suggested by some on this forum ) . Why did the board sack him for not being in the top 6-8 ?. IF the club needs to make big cut backs (Which I accept). And this as been the culture since I stood on the Tote End in the late 70s. Why build up expectations by suggesting we are up with the big boys ?. That's like cutting 1000 police officers or Army personnel. Then re-employing 300 and expecting the same targets . No one can have there cake and eat it !.

To be fair Barton needed the big squad so that he could switch from plan A to plan B to plan C and so on. If your manager has a set way of playing then you don’t need full backs or wingers who can’t adapt to the style chosen. Only 5 subs maximum can get on so a squad of 16 plus promising kids should be good enough provided your top 16 aren’t inconsistent (Collins, Finley) or constantly getting injured, which was another gamble Barton took by signing players too good for L1 (Rossiter, Ward) but with eye watering injury records. Taylor has addressed the inconsistency in two ways he’s got Finley reaching the right levels every week and shipped out the occasionally mercurial but often mediocre Collins. Some bodies in to share the load given the exhaustion levels and the high workload would be desirable but the main rebuild in summer is when we’ll see both the manager’s and board’s true intentions.

Let's be honest we all struck very lucky with Martin similar to Rammell a few years ago. Up until Saturdays game Taylors record was no better than Bartons . Martin have papered over the cracks in a small squad which as been gradually depleting. If we never had Martin we would be in a dog - fight !.

Gonna be a more depressed GasChat than normal days I guess. I dont think we will sign a CB. We need a LWB and if Gordon is loaned (still dont believe this will happen!) a LB option too as we often switch to 4 at the back mid game to counter opponents (e.g. Oxford). An attacking option is required, happy to let Marquis get a deal elsewhere if we can bring someone in plus have Greenslade on the bench for some experience towards the end of the season. Probably one more "box to box" midfielder to cover Finley too. Loans will do if nothing decent available like Smith
