Barton was backed and when we missed out on JCH, we signed Martin on a decent wage. Taylor said himself we will probably wait until the summer and a lot of fans agree with that decision. We only play with 1 striker anyway, we have two strikers and signed two more attacking midfielders. Some fans don't look at the bigger picture and only think about the short term. If we can get better value during the summer, why get worse value now, so we can finish a few places higher when we're not going up or down?? The bigger picture: - get Taylor a player that can play Collins/ Brown position in a manner he desires. He's clearly not seeing it function as would like/ expect. It doesn't have to be a marquee player but someone he trusts to put in a shift in an effective manner. We want to see the shoots of next season now. That's the bigger picture. We did bring in two attacking midfielders??

Were the likes of Gibbons and Belshaw really demanding far more now than they would in the summer? I get players in demand might cost more but when do we ever sign that type of player anyway, it's usually cast offs, youngsters and players looking to stay locally!!

Exactly which is why I hope JHC never comes near us in the summer! Would rather get an upcoming youngster from non league etc plus a few young players being released by Orem clubs that we could have a punt on! Pirate could probably name a few but hopefully so can Wayne.

I get players in demand might cost more but when do we ever sign that type of player anyway, it's usually cast offs, youngsters and players looking to stay locally!! Conteh had a release clause. If the players we wanted do, then we should sign them now, rather than wait. How many players are entering the last 6 months of their contract and will be free agents, who we would have had to pay a fee for now?? How many players will be entering the last year of their contract, so the clubs will accept a smaller fee?? Like JCH last year, that's why we sold Collins now as he would have been worth less in the summer. Loads of clubs sell players, when they get into the final year of their contract, if they don't sign a new deal. Only players that have 2+ years left on their contracts, will be of a similar value, or players that have a great next few months. Every manager and club you ever listen to, say you don't get much value in the January transfer window. Our priority now has to be extended the players contracts, who we want long term. Anyone out of contract this season, or next season as we don't want to sell players on the cheap. Get in a recruitment team, start talking to agents ASAP. As I have said, I am not pro board, especially the new owners. I'm just willing to give them time. They have made mistakes, can they learn from them??

We did bring in two attacking midfielders?? If they take up that role- great. But it feels they still block the path of players were actually likely to have next season- if we're following this big picture logic. You can't pretend the plan was land these guys with an hour left. You probably will but its absurd. The board deserve credit for signing what they have but "giving up and focusing on next season" as you imply isn't fair. I've got 40% of my season ticket remaining. They are having to sell South stand tickets heavily discounted. I want to see some shoots for next season. I find the bigger picture stuff patronising. The positive spin is that they've decided there isn't alot avaliable right now. Similar to many of the 92. Its been a dead January. They've signed 3 loan players who they believe will give the most to the squad in the short term. Developing 6 kids for other clubs isn't big picture play. It's to have a crack now.

It obviously wasn't the plan to only look at loan players. We tried to sign Ennis and others, but it was nice that we had a plan b,c and d for once. We have signed loan players on permanents before. We have resigned loan players on loan the following season. If they turn out to be like Anderson, then we benefit from having them short term. If they turn out to be like Taylor and their clubs are not sure if they can step up, then we can sign them like we did Taylor. I don't get the issue with loan players. Most clubs sign them, even the clubs in the play off positions. A lot of clubs sign the players after, if the players want first team football and enjoy the experience.

The window we mucked up was August in my view, signings on paper looked good to most of us, the cherry on the cake feel good marquee signing of JCH for a club record was sending out a message to other teams we mean business. Sadly, as we now know, it appears the plug was pulled on the deal by the owners son, for whatever reason, as Ive said before on here I believe a chance of top 6 being a real possibility was gone. In light of the clubs ambitions for this season, which we can all see, I think the business we’ve done bringing in 4 decent players, one for a few bob, it doesn’t seem a bad January window to me, time will tell of course UTG

I would have liked an experienced central defender and possibly another wing back.
I think we’re relatively well stocked up front for the way we’re playing. Martin with Marquis as back up as the main striker, Evans, Brown, Thomas plus the two new loanees (and possibly Sinclair?) all viable options to play alongside, as part of a three or as a number 10. Conteh allows Evans to be deployed further up field. He is by far our most dangerous player. With Brown, we know that Taylor knows him inside out. There is very clearly a player in there going by what he achieved with Exeter and with Collins gone we might just see more of what he’s about now. It took Evans a while to adjust fully to league 1 and maybe the same will be true of Brown, who it’s also worth remembering had major stress in his life not so long ago. I’m certainly not one to write him off.

Gaschat in a nutshell, they’re sh** unless we’ve heard of em😄 Or posters talk nonsense about a player being good when they haven't even kicked a ball in L1. Regardless having banked £750K you'd hope for more than just signing a couple of untried youngsters who've probably cost us next to nothing, if anything. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

There’s literally about to be a player announced and rumours it might be a premier league hotshot Elliot Anderson style Only Roady is saying that the press seem to think he's been a bit of a flop so far, it's really anybody's guess how he'll get on at L1 level. I did say we had another topper special on deadline day. Maybe I shouldn’t be posting this but after a few glasses of Shiraz it’s hard not to!

We have become good mates from meeting via this forum and we both think you are a proper idiot but love winding you up. And before I am told to not be personal, this idiot has mentioned me again. And yes, I hate Barton 👍

Well reading your post on here tonight about “what would other league one managers be thinking” I thought it might be worth reminding you of the crap you spoke. I told you that people respected in the game thought that he was above league 1 level but because he didn’t make an impact in the Portuguese premier division you said he was untested. You could argue with someone about the colour of a piece of paper, Tops.

"Liam has been training with us for a while, he has already fitted in well with the group and he brings with him a good amount of experience and an excellent pedigree," said manager Jon Brady.
"We are in a busy schedule at the moment and we wanted to make a defensive addition to the squad. He has played a lot of football in the Premier League or the Championship and we are pleased to welcome him to the club.
"He is an aggressive defender but he is also comfortable on the ball. We wish Liam every success for his time with us and I know he is raring to go."

George Friend and Jack Hunt have played more games than him though over the last few years and certain fans have criticised our recruitment in regards to signing 'Crocks'. Be interesting to see how many games he plays and misses for Northampton.

If he can stay fit it will be a good option to have and considering it is only a deal until the end of the season it's unlikely to break the bank. I'm sure they would rather him than Baggott.
