Brilliant result for the gas. Bolton and now Pompey , still miles off the play offs , but realy liking the MT era atm. Now peel me off the ceiling UTG A lot of points off but over 70 points left to play for and the sides above us have mostly played more games. Weve made the play offs from this position before. I give us a about a 40/60 chance, I know most will be laughing at that but I think we’ve got a decent side and a manager who’s perfect for this club looking at the way he’s conducted himself personally and the way he’s set us up tactically it hasn’t taken him long to establish the strengths and weaknesses of his squad and he’s getting somewhere near the best out of them so far although I think there’s more to come and as we always say it’s a results business and the results have generally been good.

Right in front of me and I thought so. I thought the ref was completely and utterly dogsh*t today. Let the Portsmouth manager berate the 4th all game and have tantrums without recourse. We score and MT and Byron were given a yellow each for seemingly no reason. Booked Matt Cox for time wasting but let their defenders take an age with their throw ins.

Only derby Peterbro and Barnsley have picked up more points than us since Taylor took charge and our opponents have had the highest points per game to their names than any other side’s opponent’s in league 1 over that time. Hes basically come in at a very difficult time fixtures wise and conducted himself brilliantly and got some very good results. Well done Matt Taylor.

The one song mob sent home with their first away defeat as some of us predicted. Still buzzing from it now.
Roll on Friday night!

I wasn’t certain that was a red on Colins. It was borderline, it was not a nice tackle but red would have been harsh. However, it depends on the angle and it was telling the players didn’t like that tackle one bit. I think it was a culmination of things. They were extremely cynical in my view, and I remember thinking that they were all about game management, and their manager mentions that in their presser after the game. He said they were unlucky to not get all 3. They had a lot of possession and looked dangerous but nothing like a championship-ready team. That tackle was one of quite a few spicy ones and for little periods it did seem their main tactic was to push us off the ball and get stuck in. I think the reaction after that tackle had been building up for quite a while.
I also think Collins got that one because he had been simulating all game and his last one led to the FK for the goal. It was just after that so I guess the subtext was they were watered off he kept going over so give him one to think about!
They were very good at the early fouls which stop breakaways and generally one of the more physical teams I’ve seen for a while.

I’ve been saying it for years we all have, top of league 1 come to the Mem they don’t look anything special but they’re very clever, masters of the dark arts , clinical when they get a chance or two and normally come away with a point or 3 whilst we all say after they weren’t anything special and didn’t play us off the park etc. Take note Mr Barton, if you ever get a management job again. This is what you need to be successful in league 1 , not try and play like Barcelona especially with only a top 10 budget. It was always going to take a very good and very gutsy performance today for us to get anything from this game and that’s exactly what the management and players delivered. Well done to Taylor and the players today and also well done to Joe for signing some very good players.

I don't think we will trouble top 6 this season but if and its a big if we can keep the backline plus Evans , Thomas, vale , ward fit for the rest of the season we may give ourselves an outside chance. I just don't think we cope with Injuries to the critical positions too well. I suppose we've got January though.

It’s weird with Collins he is failing as a goal scorer at present but a lot of his wing play and other work is pretty good. At times he seems just off the pace.

Their manager was constantly out of his box chatting with his mate the 4th. Also the ref was constantly ignoring blatant fouls being committed right under his nose by the Portsmouth players. The bloke I was standing next to was a Villa fan down here staying with his son & grandson; he couldn’t believe how earth-shatteringly abysmal the ref and Lino’s were. When we scored the 2nd he was jumping up & down with the rest of us!

Wins against top 6 teams in league one as manager of Bristol Rovers: Joey Barton - 1 (Peterborough) Matt Taylor - 2 (Bolton, Portsmouth) Matt Taylor has been manager for six games, we’ve potentially got a good manager in the building now.

If I give Topper some slack and say it could be a very very good squad if we sign the right players in January. All teams want more players but our base squad is good, the right players come in and I don’t know 6th place isn’t realistic……….and if we made 6th, had some luck, I won’t let Topper get away with best squad since Holloway but I will give him some credit. 🎢 👍 *We are both enjoying this, as we said today, we’ve got a a proper manager now. *But if Taylor is not backed, relying on Marquis and Martin all season up front, I think we are a mid table side.

Not sure I agree with that mate; I think they were blatant and cynical with their fouling, even more so when it became apparent that the referee was turning a blind eye to it all. I know Collins is one for simulation, but with a couple of those challenges, especially 2nd half when we were attacking towards the Thatcher’s, the crunches were clearly audible from the terrace. We let them have the ball at the back and pass it around, but I thought that for the majority of the game they offered very little up front and we looked the more dominant and more likely to score, except for a couple of occasions in the 2nd half where we weren’t pressing high enough (after Marquis got subbed off) and they came through the middle.

He will come good for us again. I hope so cos when he’s on it he’s the best player in league 1. All too positive this Thread! I normally very glass half full but I'm seeing this game really differently to almost everyone today! Collins was woeful today and was carried in my view. He should of been subbed off. Not Marquis! MT got away with the substitution. It killed the momentum and rovers could of lost the game because of it. It was after the substitution the Portsmouth dominated! Big shout to Connor Taylor. Completely dominated Colby Bishop. That takes some doing. Awesome!
