I prefer male commentators just because I think they’re better at it. But I guess you have to keep practicing to get better at anything and it’s not going to change so I suppose in time the female commentating will improve. I hope so because the majority of them do grate a bit.

I'm very happy he hasn't said that as our manager, he just sounds ignorant and backwards. I reckon there'll be more of this to come now he's out of the game, perhaps attempting to keep himself in the spotlight for good or bad. Maybe he knows his days in football are over. We are all falling for it. It was time in the clubs history that will be looked back on by some as exciting and others as embarrassing. Let's not feed the troll. Don't give him the attention, that's what he wants.

Two words: Micheal Owen Also all this chat about women not being able to comment on the mens game reminds me of the Arrigo Sacchi quote "I never realised that in order to become a jockey you have to have been a horse first"

Barton believes that you have to had played at the top level, in order to coach or commentate at that level. It's not right, but I don't think it's necessary sexist, as he's said the same about men.

Former employee embarrassing himself further on social media. For those of you who told us he wasn’t sexist go and have a look at his latest drivel. And before any of you come firing shots at me for carrying on about him, it’s relevant to us cause it’s a conversation we had many times when he was here and despite clear evidence at the time that he held sexist views, many on here tried to defend it. Hahaha how sad, you do know your little group of haters, are actually a minority of the supporters. Lets get it right Wael employed Joey knowing his back catalogue, so lets not get so morally superior. Joey has moved on and currently building a new podcast studio, if nobody is interested in his views (which are not necessarily shared by others) then his podcast career will be short lived. What I remember of Joey was his ability to attract very good players to BRFC, such as Elliot Anderson, getting the club promoted, and thousands of supporters chanting his name and carrying him shoulder high on the pitch after that fantastic result at Rochdale. Now is the time to move on, and just hope the new messiah Tisdale 2 backs up his talk, starting on Saturday.

Who is comparing the way women play to the men's game? It is the same game, the difference is physicality. Physicality does not prevent a women from commentating on men playing the game anymore than the males who commentate, most of whom have never played professionally. But physicality is foremost in Barton's mind it seems, most likely because he lacks it. He displays all the symptoms of "Small Man Syndrome" and the intellect of a yapping dog. Thank god he is no longer with us. I have to say that I am not keen on having women’s football rammed into our homes. I used to enjoy FF but do not watch it now. IF the game was a stand alone product and not heavily subsidised then I would like to see the attendances and interest. One thing you cannot do is to compare it with the men’s game. just my own personal view. Conversely soccer a.m used to have Helen and I enjoyed that but that was much more lighthearted I am not a misogynist but i much prefer listening to an experienced ex players over a female plus I feel a disproportionate bias in pushing the ladies game. Just my own preference. I would never presume to tell others what to watch or listen to though

Oh look. Yet another thread about an ex manager. Why not amalgamate them all and put them in one giant thread where posters who post hundreds of posts a week can bore themselves to death. Totally agree - Its as if some people have some sort of weird stalking fetish - Move on FFS. It only antagonises our already divided fan base

How is gender relevant to commentating? Motson, Tyler Pearce etc didn't play professionally. A (weak) case could be made for pundits needing to be men, but not commenters. Motson was and always will be the gold standard. The work he put in and notes me were fastidious and he was a consummate pro. To compare him with anyone else seems a bit daft. Extremely well respected by players and all in football. It would be fantastic if the others followed his lead, male and female

I’ve got a picture up, Joseph Barton, very compelling kind of a figure. But there’s something about his eyes… His eyes are almost entirely black! He was a decorated football player and manager. Hold the fort. He hates women. I’m sick of these kind of characters.

As much as I don't have time for him, I think his point is that anyone who hasn't featured at the top level of the game shouldn't be hired as an expert pundit (as opposed to commentator or presenter). I personally think there's validity in that view, but he expresses it very poorly and provocatively. Agreed - when watching any sport I want the ‘expert’ analysis to come from someone who has been there and done it at that level. I don’t want to watch England at a World Cup and then have someone who has played only conference level for example to be providing the analysis. They haven’t played at that level, same with women players. Another example could be cricket. How can you seriously have ‘expert’ analysis on Joe Roots defensive technique when facing 100mph bouncers when the highest you’ve ever faced in the women’s game is say 75mph? Completely pointless and no value to the broadcast. However, there is absolutely no reason why women can’t commentate and describe the action (I get some don’t like the high pitch though) or be the Lead Presenter of a show like Match of the Day or Sky Super Sunday etc…
