He is only 21 and still gaining experience in the role he plays. I'm sure with greater experience and confidence he will adapt and to other parts of his game. He just needs to be allowed to play the role that suits him best Elliot Anderson was 19 when he joined Rovers, tore up Div 2, was the best player we have seen at the MEM, and got us promoted. I am sure this fella will settle in and do something similar.Β Anderson was brilliant. Iβm eternally grateful to Ameobi for bringing him to our attention

Hi Gasworkers ,
Grimsby fan in peace .
It sounds like the deal will go through now which will be somewhat of a relief to you all I'm sure .
So what sort of player is he ?
I have seen every game of ours this season and as a whole you would say he has been good . He's played as the holding midfield player as the pivot of a 3 . His main strengths are tackling ,teamwork and in my mind the one that stands out is the ability to receive the ball in tight areas ; his press resistance is incredible for the lower leagues , normally when a player receives the ball into feet from the centre backs or keeper your thought is 'oh oh ' or at least is for us. But he can receive the ball with 1 or 2 men on him and pretty much NEVER lose . He's very simplistic with his passing and keeps the ball moving -- he will need to be playing in a team that works the ball from the back through otherwise will be wasted .
I saw him a few times at Gateshead and he played the right of a three in midfield more box to box which is a job he also did well so it might not be nailed on he plays the more restricted role like he did with us .
I think it's a good move for all parties tbh we are not going anywhere this season (hopefully not down ) with a good fee + sell on .Barring injuries I can see him playing Championship minimum in the next couple of years ,so I suppose it depends how you do whether you can keep hold of him .
I have been mildly amused with the varying degrees of drama I must admit at times over the last couple of days it's seemed their maybe a nucleur explosion .
I will keep reading and interested to see how Kamil does .
Cheers Gasheads and good luck for the season

I can see from his stats that he's not going to score lots of goals or split defences open with an eye of the needle pass. However, every team needs, or at least benefits from, a Kante, and Conteh sounds the L2 equivalent in many ways. I think that ability to receive the ball under pressure and rarely lose possession is what sets him apart from most midfielders in L2 and man in L1. Given the reported 20% sell on we'll both benefit if he improves as expected and goes on to play at a higher level. All the best for the remainder of the season.

Gasworkers makes pure sense, given our history.
Anyway, has Johnny Conteh signed yet? He's had a varied career and only lost 4 times. He seems to be keeping himself fit for 72 and must surely be our oldest signing yet?
Good luck to the lad and thank you to the Grimsby contribution. π

Fish I remember feeling sick with nerves most of the game, felt so much more pressured than other playoff finals been to as losing felt like it wasn't an option! I think the tension made a lot of us quieter than normal! Genuinely didn't enjoy any of that game until after then pen went in!

Yes felt much different to the 2007 one - then we had pulled of a miracle to get in playoffs and it felt like a bonus and a great day out - conference one we missed out on the last day and it felt like life or death to win. Pure stress not enjoyable to the final penalty. Grimsby fans were decent and loved the whole fish thing .....
