Thank god we won’t have to go through the local press/media fawning over them for months because they’re playing Man Utd. There is that but the local press had them playing Leeds last weekend and Middlesbrough this, whilst we had Fleetwood and next up Burton Albion. I don't think an FA Cup run for them bucks any trend tbh. Spot on Simon. Hard to take for us gasheads but this one accepts they are and have been miles ahead of us for many years now. on and off the pitch. I watch Championship football on Sky on a regular basis and apart from the odd game the standard is way above league one. Not only the pace of the games, but the skills on show. Great to see that Ipswich who were streets ahead of league one last season are doing so well and Plymouth are making a decent go at it. It’s clear to me we have to have a huge improvement next season to challenge for the playoffs yet alone the automatic spots and as our neighbours down the road have shown it takes bucketfulls of money to just stay there as a middle of the table side.

Spot on post I've been a supporter for nearly 60years and love Rovers,I don't see anyway in the near future we have the facilities, players and critically the long term funding from Owners to get in and keep us in the Championship. I hope I'm wrong.

Luton went from Non League to The Championship in 4 years, then only 2 years as a mid table Championship team before reaching the Play Offs 2 years on the trot. Now they're playing really exciting, attacking Football in The Premier League.
Mostly with players from their Non League/League 2 days and signings on free transfers.
Not only that but also in a ground with a smaller capacity than The Mem.
They have not only shown clubs like us how it's done but also clubs like Bristol City who have spunked loads just to stagnate as a middle of the road Championship club.
We shouldn't take any notice of that lot down the road, clubs like Luton are the benchmark we should be looking upto.

Did not have any sympathy for them back then and certainly didn't last night, just the opposite in fact. No doubt if current rules were around in 82 they would have been deducted so many points they would have been in the Downs league! would you believe they even held a 'celebratory' event in recent years to 'commemorate ' the events of 81/82 ! For all their facilities etc, remember they are still just one promotion/relegation in front of us on the field!

Not sure you'd call City stagnating when you look at their facilities? Selling players at a vast profit whilst remaining in the Championship seems a good business model, if it's not what the supporters want.

Reinvesting some of that cash in their team would probably be a better business model. If we can't agree on stagnation perhaps we can revert to the default position of sleeping giant, those halfwits seem to embrace ...

This is their 9th season back in The Championship, their average league position in that time is 14th.
While also selling all their best players and not reinvesting much of it back into the playing side in recent years.
I would say they are the very definition of stagnating. Not moving anywhere.

During that period how much have they spent on AG, their training facilitates and getting pp for their sports complex? It they ever did wake up and get promoted you could see then surviving in the Premiership for years, meanwhile we'd struggle to survive one season in the Championship.

its strange to say we are stagnating i have followed since the 82 season where i always thought there was nothing between us but we have built something now to be proud of on and off the pitch to give us the best chance of maybe just for one season to play prem football inthe last 9 years the gap has been huge.
9 years championship to your years in the bottom leagues plus out the league
20000 to 24000 average to your still the same 7000 to 8000
a ground that would grace the prem to yours that is no better than some non league clubs
a owner that to be fair may not get things right on the pitch but puts his money where his mouth is off it ie training ground ashton gate bristol bears womens football academy and maybe if he gets the go ahead new 3000 all seater hotel and shops
your owner a stand that looks more suited to low league standard
we sell 1 player for more money than your whole squad is worth and your new stand and much more
come on chaps take the green eyed monster away and try not to clutch at straws
hopefully i dont get banned as i do like to have some good banter with you boys when i do post but some need a reality check

City are doing just that currently.
There really is no need to get so offended.
I would rather look at a club like Luton, who have risen through the leagues and now playing top flight Football without the need to spend 'bucketfulls' of money in a ground with a smaller capacity than The Mem.

Pathetic,! you will never understand this but our season in the 5th tier was rewarding and enlightening, the dedication of the fans there was extraordinary! you will never understand it. you actual went bankrupt and ruined peoples lives , players included, ashamed .not you lot you hold a celebration to commemorate the event!! I am very happy with our new stand thank you, our Girls are rising through the ranks without any help from a big PR machine, we have a very decent training ground and facilities, yes you do well with transfers but that should tell you something, i.e. all your best players leave, there is a reason for that , any idea what? clutching at straws ,not me mate, you have your culture we have ours , you are welcome to yours, i will stick with ours if you don't mind.

Ah, this is the thread where we're told not to celebrate the shy teds misfortunes, because they're miiiiles ahead of us 'on and off the pitch'. Some people even seem to revel in saying that. And some people are even suggesting we should feel sorry for them for missing out on Man U ? Whatever next, a shy ted on here asking for us to admit to their superiority?
I hope they liquidate, and the rosy faced arrogant so and so goes bankrupt.

Glorifies what the owner has achieved, yet after every defeat their own forum is in meltdown and its not only him out, its his boy, Tinnion, and Manning.. Get a point at Middlesbrough this weekend though and all is good in the world ... Strange creatures the Ted's
