Our fanbase are a mix of optimistic hopeful fans, pessimistic ones fearing the worse and the majority that are rational human beings building their views based on the facts. Like all fan bases.
The rational ones provide calm to the more emotional outbursts seen on here from people like me.
The facts really matter. There is room on here for all of us. I am also pretty certain that the silent rational majority read stuff on here and don’t comment. These are in the hundreds.
I’m delighted that the rational ones in the majority bring calm to my more excitable thoughts. I always value their views on here as they help me think and help me understand different thoughts.
This week the hopeful ones are living the moment. Let’s make a few more weeks of how we feel today.
Enjoy the week.

Lifts the mood on here after a defeat. I flit between up and down about this club very quickly. Can't help it they mean so much to me it's hard to stay rational sometimes. Ps. There's not a fuc*ING chance were making the play offs 😃

Don’t understand why people get worked up about others getting excited about some good results.
If people want to hope for the playoffs let them be.
Ain’t no harm in hope.
17 preseason matches on the beach with nothing to hope for is worse than mild disappointment that we don’t make the playoffs after a bloody good go.
Nobody is being forced to go along with it.
For me why get out of bed for a mid table finish? Aim for the stars for me!

Does anybody really get worked up or just have their own opinion, didn't you post recently if we win 13 games we can win the play offs and I responded with that's unlikely to happen, that was just my view. What I don't get his posters saying the club is being run into the ground one week, then the next everything is OK, or the constant doomsters.

However as a few of us have said if you don’t aim for the stars you won’t reach the moon? If we’d have sat back and said 7 wouldn’t happen on the last day of 21/22 we wouldn’t have got promoted. The lads believed and we did the unthinkable. And many supporters believed in them too. I had a small amount on us to score 8 and cashed it out whilst the match was suspended and made a killing - if the game hadn’t been paused whilst Northampton finished theirs we’d have scored another I’m sure. If you look at where we were February 4th 2007,2016,2022 you’d have come to a similar conclusion. As a club were pretty good at coming out of nowhere. Got to believe.

Calm when we potentially could accrue 9 points in a week and be knocking on the door of play offs?
...or just the regular 3, in reality.
One thing is sure, it's rarely calm. There's always something to moan or get excited about!

This is exactly the reason I believe we can do it. Thinking back over the promotions in my life time very few of them have come with us in the top 2 or 3 all season with it looking likely that we’ll do it. When you’ve seen it many times before and you read people saying weve got no chance it really does make me wonder why they think that. I don’t think that’s me being a rose tinter it’s just being realistic. We do have a chance, albeit a small chance. Never give up.

Exactly what I said on another thread. In 2007 we were in 16th place on March 10th. Not sure how many points we were behind the last play off place, but it must have been a fair few.

Valentines day- that'll be when we know if its doable. Hopefully the gap to Stevenage is down to 9.
That last place looks just about within reach still. Oxford look on the slide. Oxford and Blackpool play each before then.
Looks like Stevenage are the team we need to hunt. Stevenage and Northampton will be tough fixtures. But a positive Feb could make things interesting

Then we went on a little run...

An optimist will say we can make the playoffs. A pessismist thinks we are in a relegation battle.
A realist looks at the table and says that, despite the position, a 12 point gap to the play offs looks like a bloody difficult challenge. Similarly a 12 point gap to the drop is probably going to take a 2000 style collapse to fall into the trap. We’ll finish between 8th and 13th, just enjoy the ride for the rest of the season.

Just as I see it. I want to see a real attempt at creating a system that players are comfortable with to take into next season If we are to play 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 we need to bring in decent wing backs and possibly 2 new strikers in the summer. The core is there in WARD/TAYLOR/WILSON/CONTEH/FINLEY/EVO/THOMAS Certainly no mass clear out needed, think MT has worked out now who won’t be here next season I’m optimistic that next season we will be stronger. I have been saying that on loop for 40 years though! UTG

I agree with most of this analysis. I would add that I have not, in my personal or work life, met many successful people who are pessimists. I am also certain that pessimistic drainers in the dressing rooms of all football clubs won’t be part of any club in play off positions or winning championships. In sport, negative thinking does not create or inspire champions. The best managers create an attitude of mind that separates the best from the rest. I just find that drainers tend to suck the energy out of the room, the dressing room and conversations in life. Best of luck to them. I personally wouldn’t want any of them in my dressing room. When I’m busily thinking that we might just achieve the play offs I don’t want the distraction that might just question my hope. To be honest, if I was manager I would firstly try and change these drainers or if I couldn’t I’d change them for someone else or leave them out of the squad. I know lots of pessimists but as we all know I’m a fan of winners and optimistic people. They help me feel better about life. Like you I’m going to enjoy the ride any who knows where it might take us.
