Goodnight Irene has been sung continuously since the 1950s, and is now sounding its age. A new Rovers song will be a breath of fresh air for a forward thinking club! Agree. We need new songs and GI should be reserved for when we walk out and walk off. Nobody sings it properly anyway.

I don't like Goodnight Irene because it is to short. We only sing the chorus, if the whole song was sang it would be different. Don't like quarters on the shirt either and don't like light blue. Dark blue would be better. I think we wore dark blue shirts in the 60s. Just because it is differnet does not make it good. A bit like Gaudi's church in Barcelona! It’s not short - it’s just the way we sing it unfortunately - in a very lazy manner , needs more oomph ! 💙

Getting abit depressing here weather wise, let’s pitch up in the Caribbean instead. Bahamas Premier League Champions within 5 years I reckon.

My favourite recording of it is the Eric Clapton and friends version on a Chas and Dave Christmas special with Albert Lee on Guitar. If i ever became famous it would be one of my desert island discs and with over 5 million views on youtube it looks like loads of other people enjoy it too That is awful Lol - we are all different . I have heard Clapton play it a few times and in different ways but i prefer that kind of light hearted party type handling to the depressing durges of so many. Alex Harvey played it is a similar type of upbeat way

"Sometimes I have a great notion to jump in the river and drown".
We just can't have something that glorifies suicide.
The young uns with their ticky toky fun videos are showing us the way. This is what we should sing, it shows the team that we have belief and is lots more encouraging:

We could change the colour of the kit? That proved to be a popular opinion in the past.

Sticky Toffee Pudding & Banana Quarters, with a delicate mint crisp collar & trim, Golden Syrup Shorts, Raspberry & Cream hooped Socks, that is such a mouth watering kit you could almost taste it.

Sung properly, it’s the pledge we make to the club. The first part is that pledge. Needs to be sung with gusto and at right pace

I remember reading an Oxford forum a few years ago, and the writer was lamenting their lack of a stirring anthem and Goodnight Irene was the example he gave of a song sung by a club’s fans to rouse their side.

We need to be going back to the full version. The 'diet' one is exactly that.

We should also ditch wind up merchants from OTIB coming on starting threads! Don't be so bloody gullible! Well, quite. Check out the forum name of the person who started the thread. A lot of people have been done up by one.

It’s disrespectful.

Maybe we should wear red shirts ,adopt the nickname the robins and just not have a nationally recognised club song.
We can join Swindle,Chelts and 1982 ltd then.
