I think we have to stick with him and give him the summer, as 79 just said. They're completely different managers, Taylor and the last. Barton winged it constantly bringing in excellent players for the level but with injury histories, if key players got injured he'd throw everything in the air and hope it landed right. The players would go out with a bomb up their arse and ringing in their ears. Taylor won't like winging it and probably has to work a lot harder for respect from much of the squad, some of which got us promoted under the old regime.
We need the players to back the manager here too, it looks like Finley is on board and has regained his form after it looked like he was done. We've seen good performances from the team under his management, and the ways he talks about our lack of strength is something we've all been saying needs addressing. I'm not sure what he could have said in that interview that was more truthful.

Maybe monotone Matt should take a look in the mirror. Under Mangan we managed to grind out a win at home against a physical Northampton side when we were second best for large parts of the game and then ground out a 1-0 away win at Carlisle when down to 10 men for 20+ mins. What is Taylor's excuse for getting sacked in his last job after breaking their club transfer record twice in one window, and then going from a poor 1.00 PPM last season to an abysmal 0.69 PPM this season, conceding an embarrassing 32 goals in 16 games (with a measly 15 scored!) and couldn't turn a losing away run that lasted more than a YEAR? Sorry but totally disagree with everything you say. This manager has got a team promoted to the league above and is a thousand times better than the fool before him! It’s all in good suggesting new players but at the end of the day it’s the managers job to get them playing. What chance has he when our squad is full of sick notes and kids! I also do not believe that the club actually will pay serious money for any player and the recent 300k was just to show they were serious! I have a feeling they will buy a certain forward in the summer who will be on stupid money! I also think that our DOF is actually the owners son who has no knowledge of the game!

We ve been rubbish at beating physical low block teams for many years, under Joe from this time last year we were garbage, which carried on into some of this season's games.
We could not break down teams, I'm confident Matt will get things right.
Konteh looks the business, let's judge him on permanent signings, loans are always a gamble, and for all the Elliot Anderson's, you have some nightmares, that don t come off.

Tripe or truth? "We can't hide away from the fact that, every time we come up against this type of challenge, we fall short." "In a certain type of game, a less 'clean' game you might say, where it's a little bit more 'back-to-front' and a bit of physicality is needed, we're short in that department. We have a chance one end of the pitch, miss the target and the ball goes out of play for a goal kick. More than likely - ten seconds later - we're defending our box. That happens every single time: whether it's a long throw, or another set piece, or whether it's an unchallenged ball in the middle of the pitch. Regardless of who I've changed personnel-wise, the outcome is still the same. I've been jumping to different formations and different solutions, but - I guarantee - it won't change. It won't change because, unfortunately, the nature of the squad, the 'DNA' of the squad, is not to go towards the ball. We're not capable of doing that. So, we're going to have to find a way of protecting them (the team), but I can't protect against a goal kick". "That's a clear weakness and it seems to have been there for longer than just this season, in relation to everyone saying that 'Bristol Rovers do well against the big teams on a clean pitch in a clean game of football and then get beaten by the bottom-half teams in a certain type of game. That is going to be down to recruitment at the end of the season. This group of players can get better at it. We are working with them every single day to recognise it (the problem)". "The second goal (today) from a goal kick. Suddenly, the ball's in the back of our net. It drives me absolutely mad." "People talk a lot about the shirt... but, when the ball's there, you have to challenge" "I've tried my hardest to be consistent, in terms of giving players a chance. Now, every single game like this (when we get beaten), I have to change it. I have to be seen to change it." "We're capable of more, but the game is constantly telling us where we're weak" "We were chasing the game with the same attacking patterns: no ball-speed, no end-moments" "We're so leaky, it's disgraceful" "Can we take those moments of an opposition long-ball out of the equation? We can't. We cannot do that. Can we take a second ball out of the middle of the pitch? Can we take a set-piece moment? We can't do that. Those are the bare essentials of lower-league football and it's just not been valued enough in all departments for too long at this football club. It is being valued now". "The DNA of the squad is to not go towards the ball", said Taylor and the way our defenders allow large numbers of crosses into our box has been a problem for many years. My Dad took my Brother and I to Eastville starting in 1962 and he would regularly joke, "come on Rovers, face the ball". When ,one day i asked him why, he explained that they tended to run away from it (and he was used to watching the famous 1950's Team). We used to have really good full backs but in the modern game forgive me for asking - what is a full back?

We rarely win any headers anywhere on the pitch. That must be down to lack of commitment or the players just can't be asked. Plus we very rarely win the ball from our throw ins. We continue to get bullied and muscled off the ball from inferior players. We all love Evans and Thomas but when was the last time they won a ball by nudging a defender like the opposition do all the time. This should be taught on the training ground. Not cheating just competing in the modern game.

But you're meant to build a SQUAD. Especially if you're intent on signing aging sicknotes. Negligent. The squad had only lost one home game and was holding it's own in mid table, apart from Friend which ageing sicknote is now missing? MT's killed moral and it seems like we've seen regularly at Rovers the players have now downed tools. I was told Saturday that the players were pretty disgruntled with the tactics in the Fltwd game. This may well be tittle tattle, gossip, etc., but they seem pretty disenchanted of late. Wilson's interview after that game could be construed as "I get the grief from the fans, but it's his tactics." Whatever - you'd think MT would have done some due diligence before taking the job,and known what to expect.

So you lay blame with the previous manager for having a squad with too many kids but what does the new manager do to restore some balance…..adds a few more kids. That strikes me as a weird thing to do.

No offence, but you disagreeing with everything I say is a good sign to me, considering what you wrote. "This manager has got a team promoted to the league above" - No he hasn't. His previous experience at this level is 11 games. "What chance has he when our squad is full of sick notes and kids!" - what did Taylor do to rectify that in the January window? Sign more kids! "I also do not believe that the club actually will pay serious money for any player and the recent 300k was just to show they were serious!" - Eh?

Taylor talks (when he arrived)
"there's not too much wrong from what I can see"
"there is a feeling there that we can hopefully get a little bit more out of them and start producing winning football, as opposed to just good looking football some of the time, but not getting the end out of it."
"There's enough time to challenge this season, but we need to win games of football."
"this season it seems a little bit more even from top to bottom and we're sat in the middle of the pack at the moment. Someone will come from that position, why can't it be us?"
"Like I said to you previously, there's a reason why I took this job and that group of players is one of the main ones."

How on earth can anyone disagree with this? Total and complete sense. Absolute nail on head. Horrendous - in fact negligent -recruitment from his predecessor got us here, then pathetic backing from the owners ensur there stayed there. Have to say I agree with you RD. Yep it's spot on. I'm not getting some of this anti MT stuff, they either aren't engaging their Brain cells or they are cemented into the JB camp.

Some thought selling Collins was sensible business, and most agreed with the Conteh signing. Almost all thought offering Martin a new contract was positive. There was intention (apparently) to bring in a striker in January. I'll reserve my judgment on the owners until after the summer, hopefully by then they'll trust Taylor enough to spend some money

Definitely not in the JB camp, but this awful football he’s playing is depressing, he had January and brought in kids, don’t give me this give him time rubbish. His players ( He took the job) his tactical moves. Why bring Wilson off after 85 minutes, Crama is ten times the player he replaced him with. Exeter can bring a recognised striker who knows where the back of the net is. We bring in nothing, Same as the last three windows, nothing.

If recruitment was obviously so bad why didn't MT try and rectify it last month rather than bring in more lightweight youngsters? Spot on topper 💙

I think we have been too inconsistent against the poorer teams for years. We seem to give the likes of Bolton, Portsmouth a good game and then just not turn up against teams we should be beating, Reading, Fleetwood etc etc. We have some good players and would be doing better if we could keep them fit. Some like Ward wouldn’t be playing for us at all if his fitness record was better. We know these players can perform because we’ve all seen it. One thing I notice is how poor we are from throw ins. Nobody seems to make a run, nothing ever comes from them, we quite often lose the ball. At Norwich we even gave away two foul throws! Ffs. This isn’t anything to do with the players and I’d argue comes down to coaching. I know it’s different but Liverpool have a coach just for throw ins. I’m not saying we need that but the players can be coached to do better from set pieces and throw ins particular. Football is all about incremental gains and gaining advantages, small improvements here and there. We have the players we have, I think we’re lucky to have a few of them. I just don’t buy what Matt Taylor says here, it’s not right to simplify say they’re not good enough, they can be improved with coaching and tactics.

Events could overtake Taylor. Based on the last 2 performances, we could easily loose the next 5. Will he survive 7 defeats on the trot? Yes we have a lot of injuries, but he has not added any real value yet. Look at what Coughlin did with a poor squad. There is a real danger we could go down from here. I've just made two 150 mile return trips to see the rubbish served up and I'm not happy.
