I can’t believe we’ve gone from such a united club with DC that many were proud of to the absolute toxicity of the last few years that’s still here as a result of one person. Club was toxic as soon as DC left possibly even before then. DC had lost his patience with certain individuals at the club based on interviews at the time he left. Dont think it was Wael but the day to day management. GC came in, kept us up with a small squad that ran through walls for him. He got us to 3rd in the league then weird sh** started happening. Look at the Liam Scales thread for a reminder of what went down behind the scenes. Then he left us for a club in the league below after supporters hounded him down every match despite us continually winning. It seems there was also disharmony with Widdrington behind the scenes. Whilst I completely believe the family argument I don’t think us as supporters nor the management behind the scenes helped the situation. Since then we had Garner who cleared the decks of anyone who cared and had any ability and replaced them with journeymen and dross from academies who would give us anyone they wanted off the books. Tisdale couldn’t get a tune out of them and then we were left with Barton. I can genuinely believe JB with what he says about Starnes and Widdrington. This chap suggests Garner was alright and Tisdale as well which ruins his credibility and he is also tarred by association with Widdrington who allowed the two aforementioned on his watch and forced out Coughlan. He might be a good scout and Widdrington might be doing a job at Conference level but we’ve seen how they performed at l1 level. It wasn’t good enough. It’s not right the way he got rid of him with keepy ups and the club shouldn’t have allowed that but in getting rid of him I don’t think he necessarily did anything wrong. There should be no jobs for the boys at rovers and people need to earn their place. I’m glad they’re all gone - Barton included. A few more to go before MT and GF can start pushing their agenda on the club and transform us for next season. We’ve been a mess for a good part of half a decade and we need to give them a chance to do what they need to do. This is the dark part of the tunnel, the end is in sight. The only thing I know Widderington was no mate of DC which he expressed as much on the train between Newcastle and Sunderland a few years ago.

So he got us to 3rd then? I think so.. but that was the peak. The weird sh** happened before then. But our trajectory definitely seemed positive from even when he picked up from DC. Then signing JCH really had us looking good. Tight at the back and with someone who took his chances (and scored some goals from nothing). Many may consider him unpleasant for the way he treated Chris Lines but no player is bigger than the club. Sure.. but given we had just gone from DC who had built up a great rapport with players and fans, I think it felt worse than it probably was. Like him or loathe him GC got us results and was on track to get our best L1 result this decade when he left. Many players under him have gone to play for him since he left, Ollie Clarke, Rollin Menayese. Compared to JB, GC was a saint. I very strongly agree!

he chucked in the bristol thing because he knows it triggers people down here and he does get bites out of it. Have to admit I don’t mind us being called Bristol as it ignores the irrevelent across the City. I'm not arsed either tbf. Even the rugby club are Bristol "Bears" now - so no confusion to be had

Thanks to the new South Stand Loads are staying away. I’m sure I remember dead rubbers at the end of last season being sell outs - might be wrong(?). Fair enough if you wish to believe the big gaps on terraces and spare seats being solely down to the new stand - we’ll see what ST sales look like in the summer as that’s probably the best barometer of fan apathy. I was joking that we didn't have that many spare seats before as we didn't have as many seats before. Never mind

Wael gets away with countless poor decisions because he's a nice fella who genuinely loves the football club. His appointments, almost without exception, turned out to be calamities. The best manager he's ever had was inherited.
Barton is spot on about Widdrington & Starnes too. Absolute charlatans who were robbing the club dry whilst putting in minimal effort (Starnes) and genuine incompetence (Widdrington). Tommy should have been launched through the gates as soon as he suggested signing his no-talent son who had the ability level of most of the 20 year olds playing in the Downs League. Barton might be a lot of things, but he is the first bloke in an awful long time who set high standards at this football club.
That being said, whilst Barton is a very, very able coach, he cannot control himself and his tenure is now remembered for bringing shame onto our football club. Wael knew what he was getting when he pursued him. An owner with more gumption would have held his manager to a much higher standard from the get-go. Instead he had stars in his eyes which compromised his ability to make a rational decision.

x.com/Joey7Barton/status/1777975134579519986Surely at some point this behaviour breaches contract and we can stop paying him? Absolutely crass how he is carrying on with these public attacks on his former(current) employer and Taylor.

The level of unprofessionalism, the childishness, the negative attention and mockery it brings to the club. And people are defending him?

At least those now defending him are doubling down. In the words of Brian Limmond "Don't back down, double down".

I wonder if Barton has put a massive bet on us not scoring and bribed those he is still in contact with here accordingly, with the winnings... a million to one they said! 🤫 Don’t blow our cover.

I got the impression that he was using his wage to pay some of the people he brought with him, not sure that he ever used the word "free", but I don't have perfect recollection of things these days!

Absolutely crass how he is carrying on with these public attacks on his former(current) employer and Taylor. I assume the club now has a decent social media policy in place. I would bet it hasn't been in place for long though, and unless it was in place when he signed the contract (and was added into that contract) it wouldn't apply to him anyway. The only other way is a tribunal for breach of contract and can't imagine that's a good idea...
