Loads better than some of the dross we’ve served up at home since MT took over. It wasn’t a classic by any means but we were a lot better than I expected today. I saw plenty of effort but a team lacking confidence. Some decent performances, Evans showed some great touches and movement and Finley played well bearing in mind he picked up a yellow very early. Ward and Thomas were good when they came on. On another day, despite being not playing great we could have won comfortably - Martin missed two very good chances first half, he missed with a free header second half, Ward had an air shot 6 yards in front of goal, Brown hit the post, Thomas missed the follow up by inches….. In summary, an improvement on recent weeks but still a long way short of where we should be. I do sense a lot of the posts on here and the other thread were written before today’s game even took place. I’m not a MT fan and have concerns about whether he can be a success with us but some of the stuff being posted today (on the back of todays game) is just OTT. Thanks for this balanced post eric, I also didn’t think we looked that bad and probably played some of the better attacking football for a fair while. I am a bit disappointed with how we started the 2nd half but pleased with how we ended it, after Thomas came on. It’s no coincidence that we’ve not won or scored since Thomas has been injured IMO I think we lost our way when BA ran out of steam, or did he swap positions with Evans?, once Ward came on we stepped back up a gear, it was just unfortunate Brown hit the post as anything on target would have easily beaten the goalie. Eric forgot to mention our non league goalie looked comfortable all game and made a decent save at the death to make sure that we didn't end up being pointless today.

Brown was very unlucky there as his lovely reverse turn before getting his shot away created the space for his excellent strike. As regards Jed Ward, only two or three small mistakes with his kicking after coming well out of his area, the rest of his game was fine.

Yes, if they want to. Most do, that's why attendances are generally higher when a game has more on it. Am I missing something with hoole? I only make it to about 8-10 games a year, but every time I see hoole, I've been really impressed and he's been in the top few performers each game I would include today's game in that as well (aside from that horrendous backpass). Understand he had a dip in form but isn't that what happens with young players. I think he is class and should be ones we build the team around. I agree with you re Hoole. He had a decent game today. Yes he made a mistake with the back pass but every other player made mistakes today of one kind or another. He is good in the air (I can see why he might make a centre back one day). He got in two good blocks in a row in the second half. He may never make it to the Prem but he is worth his place. Some on here never seem to like young players, ie whoever it is who thinks Ward is non-league standard. He has played maybe 15 first team games and is v young. No idea why people have this attitude but we are all different.

One thing after watching todays game is we need two new full backs. Clean sheet, minimal pace around the park and the full backs get the blame.

It’s not me btw - I think he needs to be put into an equal fight for the Number 1 jersey next season along with a new signing

I thought Gordon was poor today going forward, I can't understand why he couldn't make the simple sideways to Finley late in the game in particular. Hoole just needs to learn to cross the ball, although Leadbetter never did!

Lack of quality today, not going overboard but based on that, Jed ward, connor T, LT and Evo if he wants to stay, and Chris Martin, the rest are poor at passing and crossing, still on a positive we have a blank canvas.

Some competition would do him good next season if we can afford it. He seemed to make good decisions today, coming out of his box a few times. I’ve no doubt he’ll make mistakes but he’s made a promising start to his league career.

I was in hospitality today for the second time in 62 years supporting. Amongst our group was a Blades fan from Bath that had driven to Sheffield on Friday, watched their game against Forest on Saturday and back to Bath Sunday. Watching us today as an interested neutral his opinion was interesting. “Rovers deserved to win that comfortably but nothing went your way. I thought it was only Blades didn’t get any luck but you seem to suffer in a very similar way. Lack of confidence isn’t helping either.” He also felt the atmosphere was “rather flat”and maybe a bit more support was deserved and might have helped. UTG!

Rovers should have won comfortably. I could not see any one of their players who would get in the Rovers team on yesterdays performance.

So it wasn't a great watch, but are there reasons to be cheerful?
Part 1. Clean sheet
Part 2. A few players returning and we looked better for it
Part 3. We have 3 damn good chances to not only win, but win comfortably. Chances squandered and we could all have gone home happy

Paul Hurst was spot on other than a couple league 2 standard, players not doing enough for their respective fans.
I cannot literally wait for the cull, and they will all deserve this.
You see players being subbed and ignoring Matt Taylor, I really hope George Friend is all over the non league clubs, seeing what potential is available.

Maybe some on here need to watch and ignore their preconceived ideas...
