Grandkids coming over so gave it a miss today. Time was I wouldn't have dreamed of not being at a home game but honestly couldn't be bothered. Haven't seen anything since MT arrived to give me confidence that things will improve and don't imagine there will be too many players available in the summer thinking hmm, wouldn't mind playing for Rovers. Hard times ahead? I don’t think like that Plenty of young hungry players around, waiting for their chance. We are in a league full of mediocre teams, we need to be diligent and identify targets that have potential and most importantly want to improve and fight for that shirt We have too many crocks coming to the end of their careers, and the apathy is showing on and off the pitch We need 2 new centre backs, 2 new wing backs, probably another creative midfielder and 2 maybe 3 new strikers The only players I’d look to keep as first team players are Jed Ward, Connor Taylor, Conteh, Thomas and Evans ( I’d keep Martin but only if wages are reasonable) Others are worth keeping if MT deems their injury concerns are not too serious - Grant Ward, McCormick and Finley The rest will not be missed UTG

Loads better than some of the dross we’ve served up at home since MT took over. It wasn’t a classic by any means but we were a lot better than I expected today. I saw plenty of effort but a team lacking confidence. Some decent performances, Evans showed some great touches and movement and Finley played well bearing in mind he picked up a yellow very early. Ward and Thomas were good when they came on. On another day, despite being not playing great we could have won comfortably - Martin missed two very good chances first half, he missed with a free header second half, Ward had an air shot 6 yards in front of goal, Brown hit the post, Thomas missed the follow up by inches….. In summary, an improvement on recent weeks but still a long way short of where we should be. I do sense a lot of the posts on here and the other thread were written before today’s game even took place. I’m not a MT fan and have concerns about whether he can be a success with us but some of the stuff being posted today (on the back of todays game) is just OTT. For me, Martin should have buried at least one of his one v ones with their keeper and Brown should have scored. 2-0 and everyone goes home happy. MT tactics got us three clearcut chances. I was at the opposite end of the west terrace but like his first chance was the easiest with the second being a bit tighter an angle? Ward and Brown should have scored their chances. I don’t buy into the assumptions of others that everything would be rosy if we played two up top - hardly any teams do that these days and many still prosper.

We were ok today. Evans however is a different gravy. No chance hel still be here next season he deserves a shot at the champ and I think someone will come in for him. Class above everyone on the park today. Mind you shrews were absolutely shocking. Worst I've seen against us this season. Some of the stuff Evans did today you just don’t see from other players in the third tier. Hope we can keep him - a very classy and committed player.

I get that the Port Vale game, we were poor. Today, I thought we did enough to take all three points. Ward only had one save to make. They did hit the cross bar early in the 2nd half. But they didn't really bother us.

I actually thought we were ok today not great by any means but it's a game we should have won based on the chances we created. We looked more solid, granted Shrewsbury were poor but bar one comfortable save late on Ward wasn't tested at all. I think a lot of the frustration comes from the games leading up to today, if that performance had come prior to our dodgy spell I dont think we'd have seen such a negative reaction. Having said that 1 up front for 90 mins at home I can see why people get frustrated

Shame we couldn’t take one of our chances and sneak 3 points. I’ll take the clean sheet after the amount of goals we’ve shipped recently though.

We’ve played that way for a few seasons as do most teams these days in all divisions. We beat Scunthorpe 7-0 with 1 up front !!!

Never started a matchday thread before. I'm going for a repeat of the 7-0 victory from the early 70's with both Wards and Flash to score. Well it is April Fool's Day. Difficult to predict. I bet MT is cheesed off with JB's players, so maybe a few youngsters in the squad, as really not much he can change in terms of personnel, or formation. I would like Ward and Macca to start but they probably have to be re-introduced gradually. Aguilera should definitely be in the side as long as his parent club agree. Rather than predicting the match result, maybe it would be easier to predict at least 10 Shrewsbury dives, a total of 200 yards stolen at throws and ten minutes of wasting time if they take the lead. Let's hope we get a strong ref. Wouldn't it be great to get a "homer" as they used to say. (Why in the last 3 years have we often had a neutral or an "awayer"?) Well I was almost right! We probably had 7 chances, but I was well short on the 200 yards stolen at throws. More like two miles. I like how the ref warned them twice early doors and then let them get away with 5he rest of the game!

Shame a really good chance fell to Grant Ward, who has scored 17 goals in nearly 300 career appearances. Luke Thomas looked sharp. We’ve missed him over recent weeks as he has pace which our other midfield and forward players don’t have. Better than Friday but we should have beaten a really poor Shrewsbury side.

Place is a shambles. Both phone box kiosks shut on the north side and not a 50/50 , programme seller in sight. And Conteh rested, nine of Fridays starters starting today, you could not make it up. In this day and age of mobile phones, why do you need a phone box? Kiosks the size of phone boxes! This old timer is a slave to his iPhone!

I was there. We’ve had some shockers this season and whilst we couldn’t put it in the onion bag and we didn’t look like Brazil it was an enjoyable game of football and the staff in the pasty huts on the east terrace put in a shift! I enjoyed myself. Loads better than some of the dross we’ve served up at home since MT took over. It wasn’t a classic by any means but we were a lot better than I expected today. You're correct and the modern way is to go with 1 up front, I just think the fact we're so short of goals over the last few games means supporters are a lot less forgiving than they were earlier in the season

Sat in the car park post game. Utter Utter Tripe today … Hard to say who played well .. Everyone just seemed to have a poor mistake in them . Playing one up front at home is an insult and it’s no wonder we don’t even look like scoring. When we did get close Ward somehow missed his kick in front of goal . Atmosphere was pathetic but there was literally nothing to get excited about . The only consolation is having confirmation that there will be a massive clear out at the end of the season … Contracted players and Out of Contract will move on. Needed for sure! When you say confirmation is that from someone who would know or based on what you've watched ??

One thing after watching todays game is we need two new full backs. Surely it showed more that we need two new strikers and some pace? Don’t expect either full back to be a starter next season btw

He's rested according to radio Bristol. He's played a lot of games at a young age and we have nothing to play for. bless. Does That means the fan base can now have a rest as well from paying to attend for the next games? Yes, if they want to. Most do, that's why attendances are generally higher when a game has more on it.

Thanks for this balanced post eric, I also didn’t think we looked that bad and probably played some of the better attacking football for a fair while. I am a bit disappointed with how we started the 2nd half but pleased with how we ended it, after Thomas came on. It’s no coincidence that we’ve not won or scored since Thomas has been injured IMO

I know it was only Shrewsbury but Evans today reminded me of the best player in the school on the playground. They just couldn't get near him. He glided, turned past their midfielders with absolute ease. He just has a better footballing brain than most of these league one midfielders. Anyone from the champ or bigger league one clubs watching him today would be reporting back with glowing praise.

Most do, that's why attendances are generally higher when a game has more on it. Am I missing something with hoole? I only make it to about 8-10 games a year, but every time I see hoole, I've been really impressed and he's been in the top few performers each game I would include today's game in that as well (aside from that horrendous backpass). Understand he had a dip in form but isn't that what happens with young players. I think he is class and should be ones we build the team around.
