Now that it’s well and truly in the rear view can anybody else look back on this season and smile? It was the year I felt like I got my Rovers back. I enjoyed visiting new grounds. I enjoyed actually winning some games and having something to play for. Looking back most of the squad were proper likeable people too. DC lead locks, Mildenhall, Harrison, Monkhouse, Gaffney, Lines, Snake (at the time) and Blissett. We all formed bonds with this team. People got the squad tattooed on them. And of course Puddymania was sweeping the terraces with renditions of “I wanna dance with Will Puddy”. I have to admit I love everything about that season apart from the Wembley final which was boring and tense. Can anyone else just admit they’re no longer embarrassed and actually enjoyed being in the conference?

Loads of fun winnable local games. Bet they’ve had a great time!

Football is always fun when you're winning. Back to back promotion, jb's charge out of lg2. Not so fun during the turgid times

I felt that the manager and the players cared about the club the same way as I did. The players all seemed like nice guys, hard working individuals. How did I forget Sinclair! Oh Darrell why did you have to be so stubborn over Luke James?

You have to remember they’ve actually been a football league club for a very long time now. Anyone around 30 will see them as a league team.

Agree 100%, the relegation was devastating at the time but once that shock had worn off and the first game came round V Grimsby It was like nothing had changed, just different fixture list!, after a terrible start and a warning from DC that if everyone did not adapt and quickly we would be in trouble it was one long chase to the top with Barnet, only to miss out at the last due to a dodgy late goal by Dover!, anyway all's well that ended well ,just, i think it was humbling and inspirational to visit some new grounds and to experience the fantastic dedication of fans at that level, something our rich neighbours would never understand, it was indeed an interesting exciting time. The OP is good timing for me as the last few days i have been thinking 'has there ever been a time when i was so 'flat' and uninspired in my time supporting Rovers as i am now , strange really AND I agree with the OP, same as i look back fondly at our Twerton era, perhaps it's because in both instances the fan base was united in their support of Rovers , perhaps much more united than now?, good and different OP.

Absolutely agree with this, one of my favourite years and not just because we were winning. It just felt "right".
Relegation even prompted me to finally get the badge tattoo I'd always promised myself. I wanted to be the opposite of a glory hunter.

Anyone around 30 will see them as a league team. Ha ha, that's made me feel old - I can remember many derby games v Bath City! I agree that our Conference season has lots of special memories, and that team had a great bond with supporters.

I confess I was dreading the conference season. But away trips and overnight stays with my son in Grimsby and Telford are up there with my fondest football related memories. Dover and Dartford were unforgettable for various reasons.
Thank goodness it was just one season though. I’ve some Oxford supporting mates and they really didn’t enjoy their years in the conference.
Pleased to see Chesterfield back in the league. Hope Halifax make it too though they have some work to do.

Personally I couldnt stand it. As regards the Wembley play off final, it seemed like everything had been put on red and everything hung on the result of that game.
We were very lucky indeed.

Lockyer, McChrystal, Parkes and Brown at the back. I'd forgotten we only lost 5 games all season.

Bristol Rovers should never have dropped out of the Football League, it's a stain on the history of our club. When the club had been in danger of being relegated earlier in the century the board moved to prevent it. The complacency of the regime who were obsessed with beating Sainsburys was breath taking "we didn't plan for relegation" said the director of finance....
Kind regards

Recall the fog nearly causing the abandonment of the game at Nuneaton.Best ref by a mile that season but think they have folded now?.Sat with Tom Parkes parents before the game in their clubhouse. Tommy Locks and Monkhouse were brill at Telford.Jake Gosling went on a mazy run which was worthy of a Brazilian but hardly had a kick for the rest of the game. Lovely ground but they too have slumped. Will Puddy was less than brilliant that day but like at Nuneaton we got all three points.

Remember all the funny videos they produced back then too. I remember jack gosling getting plaudits for becoming Gibraltars record goal scorer.
