To add a bit more to this across the last 7 games our xG has been 5.014, I'm not a huge fan of it in one game but over the course of 5+ it does add a bit more context. Over the course of the season so far our xG is 55.44 and we've scored 48 so before this run we were only under performing xG by 2.426, now it's 7.44. Like I said, not a huge xG fan but it's a bit interesting here. I think your phrase "we've created some good chances in the last seven games" (without scoring) sys everything we need to know about where we are as a club and what our expectations are And also that we dont have the right personnel in the squad to finish the chances. What other team would have a strike force of Brown, Marquis and Martin and think it is good enough? Would they get in a team in the top 10? You could make a case for Martin but not the other 2. Going back to the op title, it seemed most were quite happy to let Barton relegate us in 20 games without question, going from 18th 3 points clear to 24th winning just 3 games because it was just accepted that he couldnt do anything to keep us up. Lets be fair, all we had was JB's word that we would get promoted, and after getting battered 4-1 by Exeter the following season, who were managed by *checks notes* Matt Taylor, it didnt look very likely until the Geordie cheat code arrived. In some ways this is a parallel situation. We've got a team full of Barton and Mangan generals who have downed tools. An imbalanced squad full of crocks and pensioners that arent the present, let alone the future, but we have got a couple of players we can build a side around. Lets get to the end of the season, rid ourselves of the expensive dead wood and rebuild. There is little point in changing managers now as we would only be looking at free agents again and theres not many candidates that would be an upgrade who would consider coming to us.

I don't think we need to be making any knee jerk reactions when there are so few games left of the season and we are (almost) safe from relegation.
BUT the final few games should be used to assess the situation at the end of the season. If the nose dive appears to be spiraling then that may be a different story and maybe a new manager is for the best. Not worth making that call right now though.
As long as we can please stop banging on about Barton. We have to move on from that. Regardless of your side of the debate we can't go back, so we have to look forward.
For context, I was fully supportive of Barton and the football played until the start of this season when things seemed have fallen apart.

Frankly the fact that the players haven't been getting the same level of criticism/abuse surprises me. Some of them have fully given up and have been "quiet quitting" for weeks/months. Considering what we're paying some of them, it's a disgrace.
Unfortunately for Taylor a large part of the group didn't want him from the start and are still sulking their mate Andy didn't get the job. We'll be better off after the clear-out, players like that don't represent my football club.

No way will they sack him with the length of contract he has that would be financial madness. He was brought in long term to build a younger team,a team maybe in the same mould of the Exeter side he had, they played some excellent football and played us off the park quite easily. He deserves his chance to rebuild and i am sure he will get it. We have been awful at defending all season and letting in stupid goals long before he came in,so the problems were already there, players heads drop and confidence goes and it has gone from bad to worse but some of the players need to have a good hard look at themselves.

Keep him and my money would he on relegation next season. This season hasn't even finished and I'm already dreading the next one. Sad times. With how things are with incompetent owners, reduced budget, strengthened division, first time DoF, Barton's mate as HoR, disaster of a manager...everything screams relegation next season sadly. 😔

I’m glad there are some more considered views being aired here now
At some point we need to formulate a long term vision, if that’s developing young hungry players and a smaller more sustainable budget that’s fine with me….. just need the owners to be more transparent and show us their plans.
Sack, rebuild, new back room staff, new style…. This continuing wheel will not lead to success. Give the guy our backing, if anything let’s let the players know it’s them we hold to account!

The die was cast back in August. I remember you and I chatting about the signings of Wilson and Friend and saying they were poor.

I call bull.sh** on this. Tuesday night - Aguillera had a shot destined for the goal stopped by a worldy of a save. Sinclair had a shot cleared off the line with a worldy of a clearing header. Martin has had 5 or 6 1 v 1' on the keeper in the last 3 to 4 games. Brown had at least two 1v1's against Lincoln, Martin had two. We are creating the chances, we are looking like we can score. Its just that its not hitting the back of the net. Stop being so catastrophising. Have a read of this, get some perspective. www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20220725-catastrophising-how-toxic-thinking-can-lead-down-dark-pathCheers Matt I'll have a read You're welcome. May not even score in them as the tactics and starting personnel are beyond belief now. Barton has already boasted on Twitter he is in regular 'chat' with eight of the squad - I cant think for one minute it is anything positive. How on Earth is Taylor expected to control things when there is a constant undermining of everything he says and tries to do. He should call out the antagonists and let the fans know who they are .... Finley will be right in the mix I am sure !! I feel for Taylor - Anyone other than Mangan would have had the same problems - Klopp and Guardiola would get nothing from this sh**e group of frauds !! Season cannot end soon enough ... Will be interesting to see how many of the squad 'turn up' at the End of Season dinner announced today.

Surely part of Barton's departure would be conditions to prevent undermining the new management? If he is contacting players and sowing discontent then he is in breach of conditions - if we're still paying him it must be grounds to at least stop that financial loss

Interestingly he calls us Bristol in some parts ... I really want Matt Taylor to succeed but i have absolutely no confidence in the Senior Leadership team - Al Qadi and Gorringe included. I absolutely will not be surprised if Taylor gets sacked and then we spend the whole summer looking for a replacement who has zero time to assemble a squad !! Stick with Taylor and I think we will steady the ship and move forward albeit slowly - change it all again and we will be fodder and heading to L2 .

There is no accountability across the board. Off the pitch we are a laughing stock. Just look at Barton's twitter today, how is he getting away with it while still on the payroll? How long does it take to sort out adequate facilities for the South Stand? Non existent communication when there aren't season tickets to sell. Extortionate ticket prices at home to Shrewsbury in a dead-rubber (£26 to stand in the Thatchers!). I'm getting pelters on a daily basis from my sh**head mates. On the pitch we have zero tactics or gameplan. Taylor has lost the players completely and that is very worrying ahead of a potential full rebuild. Who's to say the same won't happen 10 games into next season? Knowing Taylor any players who attempt to play passing football (Evans, Thomas) will be shipped out and replaced by 6'4 cloggers. We are very lucky to be on 50+ points otherwise relegation would be nailed on. Dreading next season already. Don't look. Don't give him the attention that he obviously needs. 'We' are being trolled by JB. We are letting him do it. Some should be so ashamed of themselves. Incredible isn’t it, everyone knows exactly what Joe Barton is about, yet they believe every word he says about having 8 players still here 😂 He must love every reaction to the rubbish he Tweets!

Only at Rovers could the manager still be in job after this appalling run. Not only that the clubs owners have taken to the bunker Barton watched, arms folded, as we went into freefall with a team he accepted no responsibility for and we finished bottom. He wasn't sacked. Apart from the fact I dislike the thug, I could see why we kept faith for the new season because a manager needs to build his own squad and that takes time. Same applies to MT. At least next season we start in the same league....

Did Evans just lose his head against Reading or was he trying to get a red card and 3 game ban?
