Struggling to understand how no replays benefits the likes of Bristol Rovers. Quite clearly it benefits the big boys with their European football. At most those clubs are saving a whole 2 extra games given there are no replays from the 5th round currently anyway EFL clubs should pull together and refuse to enter

Tranmere Rovers condemn the disgraceful decision taken by The FA and the Premier League to change the format of the FA Cup, including the scrapping of replays.
There was no consultation with Football League clubs, National League clubs or grassroots clubs to whom the competition represents not only their best opportunity to create life-long memories for supporters but also a hugely important source of income. We also understand that FA Council members were not consulted about the changes.
The decision, and the way it was taken, demonstrate a total lack of respect for the football pyramid and its fans. Football belongs to all of us and decisions should not be taken in back room deals in which only the very wealthiest clubs are allowed to participate. It is yet another eloquent example of the 19th-century governance that means that football simply cannot regulate itself and needs the Independent Football Regulator to have real teeth.
We condemn the changes wholeheartedly and urge The FA to suspend them immediately until all stakeholders in the game are properly consulted.

Not sure about the "increase support for grassroots football" tagline.. surely if scrapping replays helped at grassroots level they would be scrapping them below 1st round proper. Just pandering to whiny Premier League teams AGAIN and it's the lower or non league clubs that will suffer AGAIN I think everybody is being very kind to the FA about this change. All good views but the bottom line is that their tweet is a total load of b*****. They haven’t consulted who they represent and have been told to do it by the PL clubs. And I doubt they worry too much about ‘grassroots’ football. I hope the new appointment might hold them to account more but I won’t hold my breath. They must think the average football fan is stupid if they think people will believe that message. It is just a lie. UTG!

The Football Association are disingenuous in my opinion, they are hypocritical and hold double standards.
But, it must be said - they know that and couldn’t give a damn what anyone thinks.

Sad day indeed. But inevitable given the currently rich clubs’ desire to ringfence themselves from the others. If they could find a way to play each other four times a season and no one else they would do so, and keep all the money. The attempt to dress it up as benefiting the grass roots is pitiful. I think they think we are all too stupid to realise what they are doing. I’ve little time for any of them. May a plague of locusts descend on all of them. I second that ! 💯 💙

If the new rules would have applied 30 years ago, this would never have happened: Millions of supporters will miss out on magnificent occasions like this, and football will be worse for it. The young supporters are being punished in my opinion.

Hoping this gets reversed as it looks like no EFL clubs have been consulted!
Absolute farce. The sooner the greedy bastards split off into their own super league the better. The remaining clubs can have a reset and stop the top clubs hoarding money and all the best youth players

Right, here is a challenge to the Supporters Club and Football Club owners, you need to follow the excellent example of Tranmere Rovers and issue a joint statement condemning this decision. This is a direct attack on the history and integrity of the FA Cup. I am old enough to remember Hereford United beating Newcastle in a replay and then taking West Ham to a replay before going out. My late uncle was a Hereford supporter and sent me the programmes after each match, those weeks in January and February 1972 are etched on my memory as an eleven year old even though by that time I was a confirmed Rovers supporter. Of course those of us long enough in the tooth will know that Rovers have had their moments. This is what the FA Cup is all about, memories and often caused by replays. This is a real opportunity for the Supporters Club to demonstrate their relevance to the fanbase particularly in the light of the events of a few years ago where it's reputation became so tarnished which the late Dave Thomas did his level best to recover. It also gives a chance to the new owners to show that they understand their fanbase and to show some leadership. This is an issue that every EFL club should be fighting. Ownership models have changed over recent years and we have seen it here at Rovers, but if fans and owners can't come together on this then I really fear for the future of the game. It should be something that unites us and something that every Rovers supporter should be able to get behind. Kind regards John Malyckyj

If the Bristol Rovers owners do not fight this FA Cup decision with all of their might then they have no idea what Bristol Rovers Football Club is all about and should move on.

Bristol Rovers FC are extremely disappointed in the Football Association’s decision to axe FA Cup replays from the 2024/25 season.
Replays have long formed a traditional and exciting aspect of the FA Cup, the longest-serving cup competition in world football, and provide the greatest opportunity for many EFL clubs to create treasured memories for supporters.
Bristol Rovers’ own FA Cup third-round replay at The Memorial Stadium, against Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City, attracted an attendance of over 10,000 fans for a midweek evening fixture in January and provided a valuable and important income for the Club.
We are frustrated and dismayed at the lack of consultation regarding the matter, which has seemingly been the case across the EFL, and stand firm in our belief that such fundamental changes to a competition involving Bristol Rovers should not be made without at the very least including the Club in the discussion.
Rovers, in full solidarity with other EFL teams, now calls on the FA to suspend their decision to make changes to the FA Cup and undertake a full and transparent consultation process with all shareholders.

Not sure if any have already, but it will be interesting to see if any top clubs/managers/players come out and also condemn this.
I can imagine Alex Ferguson acknowledging that if his team can't beat a League Two team over 90 mins it's only fair they should have a replay. The FA Cup is not broken, but the wider game is...
