Anyone think Chris Conn Clarke or Jodi Jones are realistic targets for us?
Gonna keep a close eye on what Lincoln do this summer. They have a model and style I would love for us to emulate quickly! In theory we should be able to compete but they probably have the edge for up and coming players deciding where to go next.

Jed's 20 year old, how is he possibly going to be as physically strong as a 25+ year old keeper, perhaps you could explain what point?
As far as dominating his area this is clearly something the coaching staff can work on, you can't teach a goalie to save shots.
If he was as good as an experienced keeper already then he wouldn't be still at Rovers.

Whoops. Posted this on the wrong thread earlier
Think the choice as I see it is, we have budget £x for 2 keepers at the same salary as Ward. Or 1 experienced no1 keeper on £x and then Ward is loaned out to someone that pays all his salary. I think a keeper in their mid 20s with some experience that could provide competition to ward that comes at a similar salary. Or someone like Vigouroux who will take the whole budget.
Few assumptions here but you get my drift I hope. Not sure on my preference. Would love for Ward to prove to be no1 but maybe a year or two too early yet.

We need a quality keeper as number 1 which Jed Ward is not at the moment and due to his height i have doubts he ever will be. He might b e a good shot stopper but does not control his defence, We need an experienced keeper who can control his area and the defence. Ward always seems lost when crosses come in. Same height as Henderson at Crystal Palace and taller than Pickford at Everton. There is a trend towards 6ft 4in plus keepers but 6ft 2in is not too short. The club knows Jed is not the finished product but at 20 he should get better each year for the next decade.

Max Dean from MK Dons worth a punt?
Now franchise MK have been totally spanked out of the playoffs and remain in the 4th tier next term.

Imo Jed is doing just fine, obviously just like out field players goal keepers need competition for their place, however for me Jed would start as our number 1 for next season.

If we did the latter then the new No 1 wouldn't have anybody challenging him? We've also still got Hall on the playing budget. Yes but that is the model many choose. If it’s a true no1 that is expects to play all matches and any injury can be covered by an emergency loan or Ward recall. The model pirate has posted a few times. Hall is not a real back up. The risk with that model is, what if Your only main keeper loses form??? You can only make emergency loans to cover keeper injuries. So you would have to be 100% that you want your keeper to start every game, unless they get injured. So personally I would keep Ward and add someone to challenge him.

Can anybody understand why the EFL don't clamp down on clubs abusing the Emergency Keeper rule and ask for proof each club as two experienced keepers at the start of the season?

I could never understand Anssi getting the job, it just seemed like a job for the boys when he had no experience of being a coach.

I will stick to my guns on the fact that he does not control his defence or give great confidence at corners but this is not surprising at his age and this is why the better teams and even some worse have experienced keepers. If Ward is 6ft 2 then he certainly doesn t look it when he is in the goal but i will concede on others better knowledge. He always struck me as being a physically weak keeper and shorter than 6ft. I agree with that Steve. No way is he 6ft 2inches tall. The same was said about Michael Poke many years ago, and he wasn't the height stated either.

I seriously don't believe that you think Ward looked better than Cox. Cox was doing ok nothing spectacular 1st half of the season then his form dipped and fans got on his back and then his confidence was shot and had to be dropped. I like Ward but he is nowhere near ready to be 1st choice keeper in a L1 side.
