If MT wants a smaller squad next season and if the budget is being decreased we're definitely not having JCH and Chris Martin in the squad.
Even if Martin was offered reduced wages they are too similar in how they play

Why would a Championship player who lives with his Coronation St girlfriend and their young baby in Blackpool drop to L1 and have to live miles away from his family during the week? He cant be on that much wedge at Preston if his girlfriend is living in a 2 up 2 down in Salford. |

I presume he's been told he'll be having one as a result of a smaller budget. He said himself it was too big last season. Smaller overall numbers with fewer out injured makes more sense all round. Big job for him George and the other guy to build a competitive squad. |

Anyone think Chris Conn Clarke or Jodi Jones are realistic targets for us? Gonna keep a close eye on what Lincoln do this summer. They have a model and style I would love for us to emulate quickly! In theory we should be able to compete but they probably have the edge for up and coming players deciding where to go next. Chris Conn-Clarke is a cracking player and would be the perfect replacement for Evans if/when sold. When Evans is sold, invest half the transfer fee into signing Conn-Clarke and develop him further with a view to selling him on for a profut. Isn't that the business model that the owners are wanting? Unfortunately, I think bigger clubs than us could well be interested. I'd replace Luke Mc with this guy Conn-Clark he's scored some screamers from attacking midfield in this video 🔥 |

I am not so sure a premier league squad keeper on probably more than £10k a week would want to move to a more expensive place on a much reduced salary just for regular first team football.
Nor do I think we will pay a fee for a keeper if we have a chance to help Jed's progress.
I think we are more likely to get a much travelled keeper, who is over 32, did not play much last season and maybe looking towards coaching. Someone like Ben Amos.
Must have played several times against Friend and have mutual acquaintances.
Could challenge for the first team spot for two years and then become a squad keeper, coaching the others.

We need to find the 17,18, 19 equivalents or maybe take a chance on someone like Macca ie highly rated in a prem youth squad, but not quite good enough at 19, released and looked very good at lower league level for 2 seasons but then stagnated for 2 seasons. Who knows with a injury free pre season, he could well be like a brand new player. He does make some great late runs into the box and so many times he nearly got a final touch. With more (and better) crosses and better fitness, the extra sharpness that that brings, and the confidence that an early season goal gives, it might see a return to the Macca, we never saw in person in the covid season. |

No basis for this, just a gut feeling but I can see the owners wanting us to make a marque, or maybe left field signing, of a forward who will be on big bucks. Ie JCH, or a very highly rated prem youngster on loan, so we have to compete with big % of their wages, (young kiddie at Liverpool etc) or a forgotten player in his 30s who went abroad for good money, but just didn't adjust and somehow is on Friends radar but unnoticed by everyone else, but could move elsewhere in January window if he is successful. The rest of the squad probably will be on the lower side of wages compared to the Barton era. |
