Ffs. I still think that would be a decent signing for us

Just starting to think we have been left behind at the starting gate here … two of our potential targets already signed elsewhere and some good freebies now being snapped up by our rivals - including those we could well be in a relegation battle with.
How much is the owners sons interfering again ?
Seriously need some positive news relatively soon …

Definitely 2 left sided defenders, probably a centre back and then perhaps 2 midfielders and some pace up top. It’s not too drastic What’s more important in my mind is keeping Evans, Thomas and I’m sure clubs are keeping eyes on Jed and Connor. With those (and Rossiter?) staying we have a half decent starting point WARD WILSON TAYLOR (BAGGOTT?) HUNT CONTEH ROSSITER/WARD THOMAS EVANS NEW NEW (Martin) so there is little to panic over, just need to keep the spine and add some real pace up top Simple game this management. UTG

UTG So that’s 2 + 1 + 2 + 2. About 7 ….think that’s pretty close to what they were preparing us for, they said 13 would leave by design and we wouldn’t be getting the same amount back in so just over half makes sense. The important thing is that those seven arrive for the first day of preseason like those seven that will rock up at Rotherham. If one or more of those offered new deals turn them down then the number of acquisitions will rise as they would if we get raided for Evans or Thomas. If by the last week of the window the squad that’s been put together is struggling then Friend & co should have a backup list of potential loan players and the remaining free agents to bolster the stuttering roster. Of course that would mean that by then our focus will be on the wrong end of the table.

We knew there was going to be a massive turnover of players and should have tried to get some permanent deals done in the January window to get some players embedded in the squad and fully settled etc.

What's the draw for a club aiming to finish between 15th and 19th

Isn’t preseason training starting a month away?
If so a whole load of time.
The better players won’t necessarily be signing up to clubs at the start of the season. Rotherham are an exception.
Would be nice to get extensions sorted and one or two new faces soon though to settle the nerves.

Although we've no idea if some players have signed and the club is just waiting to announce them when they return. I'd be surprised if both Hoole and Sinclair have both turned down their new contract offers.

Then obviously went on to get automatically promoted. Whilst it’s a little later at this point we could end up doing the same this time around. Even if a similar bulk announcement is unlikely, we might get a spate of them over the course of a few days. We are crap at paperwork and announcing stuff as we painfully know too well.

Hoole turned down 2 offers so far , but wants to stay. If that's true it just shows how hard it is to get players to sign, you also have to wonder how much Rotherham are paying to get so many players to sign so early in the window.

Where have you got this info from (no names required) as the other ITKers on this site were 100% that Hoole wanted out when the retained list was announced. eg gaschat.co.uk/post/1010105/thread

Not sure of the rules but if we offer a contract on same terms but he goes elsewhere we get a fee, is that true?

I mean I doubt the authenticity of him being offered less than he was on as he would surely walk away for free if he wasn’t.
But let’s suppose that’s true. It could very well be he was on a handsome contract which was over the odds and other clubs at a lower level want to pay him less than we’re offering.
Not everything has to be doom and gloom and budget cuts could be more about getting appropriate value than meaning we’re trying to do everything on the cheap.
Personally I don’t mind us trying to be more sustainable if we’re not going to splash the cash at an effort for promotion.

Exactly, why would we offer any player the same or better terms if they had spent most of the last few yrs not starting games ?

Good point, if we offer him less we would get no compensation should he leave. So dont believe this gaschat fact!
