Just starting to think we have been left behind at the starting gate here ā¦ two of our potential targets already signed elsewhere and some good freebies now being snapped up by our rivals - including those we could well be in a relegation battle with. How much is the owners sons interfering again ? Seriously need some positive news relatively soon ā¦ Beginning to feel the same if JB was still in charge would not worry so much but with Mr Charisma charge I do have my worries Say what you like about JB he did have knack of attracting decent players

I mean I doubt the authenticity of him being offered less than he was on as he would surely walk away for free if he wasnāt. But letās suppose thatās true. It could very well be he was on a handsome contract which was over the odds and other clubs at a lower level want to pay him less than weāre offering. Not everything has to be doom and gloom and budget cuts could be more about getting appropriate value than meaning weāre trying to do everything on the cheap. Personally I donāt mind us trying to be more sustainable if weāre not going to splash the cash at an effort for promotion. Good point, if we offer him less we would get no compensation should he leave. So dont believe this gaschat fact! ā¦.but if we offered him an increase purely to ensure we could get a fee then the club could be stuck with a player they didnāt really want and on higher wages if he signs?

Hoole turned down 2 offers so far , but wants to stay. He s changed his mind then, told someone I know he wanted to leave, perhaps not as easy to get deals then?

Wigan looking to recruit Bosun Lawal from Celticā¦
Outstanding at Fleetwood last season way too good for L1 and only a young chap. Ticks EVERY box for us.
SURELY George Friend is aware of him ā¦ Are we involved in any form of talks?

Barton attracted better players, when our budget was higher. Now that's it's been cut, who ever is in charge, will find it harder to attract players. Don't forget Friend is in charge of recruitment now. He should have plenty of links, so we are not just relying on Taylor's links.

As others have said, if the budget has been cut it's going to be harder to attract players. It's not realistic to use too much of the wages budget on one player.
60-70% of L1 teams are likely to have a bigger budget than us this season so it's inevitable we will miss out on targets to others sides in L1 this summer.
It's not all about money. Location is also a big factor and another reason we often miss out on targets.
We're going to be relying on our recruitment team identifying players that we may not have heard of yet but have the potential to be good L1 players. Easier said than done but that's the reality of having a smaller budget.
I'm still hopeful we can unearth some gems and have a good season but I don't expect us to make any marquee signings.

Location is an absolute myth in my eyes, if you are getting 2k+ a week you can afford to relocate or commute, Bristol is a very attractive city to live in at the moment.
big if on the budget but if it has been cut then we can still go quality over quantity - there should be enough decent players out there to form a competitive squad.

I wouldn't say it is a myth... whilst they may be able to afford to relocate, if they can potentially have an extra Ā£1000 in their pocket through lower rental prices, lower council tax brackets etc if they choose a different club over us then why wouldn't they? Especially when it is a short career. Whilst I agree that Bristol is a very attractive city, that often isn't high up on the agenda for young footballers who unfortunately often just chase the pound signs or want to stay relatively close geographically to their friends and family.

On that logic, no team in London outside the prem would ever be able to sign any players. A career as a pro footballer its expected that you will have to relocate. Nobody goes into it thinking I hope to be a L1/L2 player

Gutted Joe Powell went to Rotherham, we looked at him at West Ham before getting Westbrooke, that ended well. š

Basically when we sign someone itās gonna massively set the tone in here for expectations. With any luck the new owners will pull it out the bag and get us a superstar

In which case, better to not offer a contract at all? I suspect he wasnāt offered a particularly attractive deal - on the basis the club would have been happy to keep him on a reduced wage as a squad player/back up but not too bothered if he chose to leave. His last contract was on the back of him showing real promise as a first XI player who could go on to greater things and so we had to offer a good deal to protect āan assetā. FWIW Iād heard the same as Pucklegas that LH was planning to leave and that was within the past couple of weeks.

At this stage of his career I would imagine Luca is looking to be a starter so can see him dropping down to L2 if we aren't offering that. Still think Newport could be a good spot for him.
