Still not decent rumour of a signing today, it's all a bit strange, even worrying, given how many players we need to sign, particularly if the likes of Hoole may also be off.

Not only are Rovers often playing catch up during the first third of a season, the alarm bells could be ringing for signings!

We have probably sounded out 3-5 players already.
Just need to fine tune the deals when they come back from holidays.
That said, they could always do a Clive Platt and Jaydon Stockley on us! Verbal agreements mean next to nothing.
Didn't Wardy do similar on his second time here? Heard he was on the way to Exeter, Geoff D gave him a bell and he stopped off in Bristol and then signed for us.

In my opinion you want most of your business done before you start pre-season training, my assumption would be looking at the Melksham friendly that'll be Monday the 1st of July. Plenty of time to get bodies in, for that first week. I surmise a lot of players are on holiday still.

Location is an absolute myth in my eyes, if you are getting 2k+ a week you can afford to relocate or commute, Bristol is a very attractive city to live in at the moment. big if on the budget but if it has been cut then we can still go quality over quantity - there should be enough decent players out there to form a competitive squad. Didn't Matty Lund turn down something like £500 quid a week more from us than Rochdale offered when we tried to get him to sign permanently from Stoke? Cheaper houses, cheaper cost of living, no need to uproot and girlfriend doesn't need to move away from friends, family, work etc, no hassle of getting a flat, or a house move, older players they have to think about kids moving schools. A lot of hassle for two years before moving elsewhere again. It's bad enough moving a few miles in Bristol and finding a nearer NHS dentist! Nick Tanners book said why a lot of players stay up north because of the catchment area. Prior to 20 odd years ago there was not a lot of clubs around. Maybe with FGR, Cheltenham and Yeovil there are clubs to go to wind down your career if you want to stay local (Ollie Clarke maybe). There is a lot for the players to think about. I believe a lot of Bartons signings had flats in the Clifton area, while their families lived up north. That's most of the guessed £2k a week gone already. (I would suspect quite a few were on much more than that).

If you wont relocate choosing Rochdale over Bristol i'd question your ambition. I get that friends and family are important but as you say its a short career, most pro footballers will be retired well before I will be, leave the missus up North if you really have to, if it doesnt work then a few years and you can move back. Players like Coutts will make it work if they want to.

More and more foreign owners are investing. Some just see it as a hobby though and just balance the books. It will be interesting to see how much they invest.

Fair play to the custodians of Wycombe and Burton, they look to have played a blinder with their takeovers. Both custodians obviously looking out for the best interests of their football clubs 👏

Serious players. A club in one of the biggest cities like us should attract significant interest, but unfortunately for us, serious owners won't want Wael lurking in background clinging on to his 40%, or whatever it is.

Well as there is absolutely naff all you , I or anyone else can do about it ( unless you have multiple millions to invest?) , are you going to keep on bitching from the sidelines about our club whilst singing the praises of others for months & months on end ? It’s just it gets a bit boring after a while.
