a weird show of respect.... or legal contracts that make it up to the club who they are in contract with. Maybe. But when has that ever stopped us or any other club announcing a pre contract? I can't remember us ever announcing a pre contract. Who have we signed previously on a pre contract?

When did/does Lewis Gordons contract expire as he was photographed in a Chesterfield shirt not long after the season finished I thought all player's contracts expired on the 30 June with the transfer window opening on the 14 June. It's not clear how the likes of JCH & LG etc were all announced well before those two dates.

Sounds like we’re pending a Scott Sinclair new contract & then the 3 new signings of Cameron Dawson, Taylor Moore & Dan Ellison. I think they would likely be signed, confirmed before pre season starts in what, 2 weeks? Plenty of work still to do, but it’s not all doom and gloom

Interesting the Accrington chairman on twitter/X saying that players they've been in for have turned them down to sign for non league clubs. He also suggests that they were getting offers of around £4.5k a week at those teams!

( Not suggesting you are one of them BTW. ) All building nicely as I expected from Day 1.

Presumably they have signed a contract but with an effective date - so legally binding but only effective from the date immediately after their contract with the previous club expires?

Maybe. But when has that ever stopped us or any other club announcing a pre contract? I can't remember us ever announcing a pre contract. Who have we signed previously on a pre contract? I think a lot of it maybe down to If the player is on the released list with their clubs or been offered new contracts but out of Contract next season. I think if the player is on Released list like Lewis Gordon, announced at Chesterfield and Harvey Greenslade announced at Yeovil its all well and good. But if we have signed players that are out of contract but been offered a new deal at their existing club then its best to keep it quiet. Its like Rossister's situation with us, He may well have signed for someone else but as we have offered him a contract for next year its best the new club doesn't announce it until Contract is completed end of of June. It does make sense.

Just a few thoughts.
There are some players it has been suggested we have been keen to bring into The Memorial Stadium for 2024/25.
Would we have been wise to offer BETTER terms than these players have now accepted elsewhere?
OR
Have we been prudent and careful with the budget up to this point?
1.Josh Edwards to CAFC from DAFC.
(His deal is for FOUR years. His transfer fee is almost £100k.)
2. Ronan Curtis to PVFC from AFCW.
(Despite a recent ACL injury 28 year old Ronan has been given a THREE year deal.)
3. Joe Edwards remaining at PAFC.
(34 in October, he has a minimum of a playing contract on Championship terms until 2025 with an agreement to transition into a coaching position on his retirement from playing, whenever that happens.)
4. Jayden Fevrier to SCFC from CUFC.
(Having started just 41 league games he has a THREE year deal with an option of an additional year. He has signed for an undisclosed fee.)
5. Joe Powell to RUFC from BAFC.
(Despite the recently enriched Burton Albion's declared offer of significantly improved terms he has signed a TWO year deal at Rotherham.)
All of these players have qualities that make them worthy of consideration as potential signings.
It seems that EACH and EVERY ONE of these players would have been a major financial commitment.
Good players will not come cheap but the cost of bettering the deals that these 5 players have accepted might not have been shrewd business.
Any long contracts or costly deals should be focused on the striker department. That is our Achilles Heel.
At least TWO NEW STRIKERS to play with Chris Martin are essential for success.

There is some Crazy money being chucked around in Non-League, With Chesterfield last season Grigg and Naylor were reported to be on 5k a week, both signed when in the national league on 3 year deals.. I know one of our x young players has been offered over 1k a week to play in National league Clubs in the Manchester area! Rochdale have a few on there books on over 3 k a week and its only getting worse for next season! You also look at the likes of Taunton, Their wage bill at Step 3 is going to be huge but with the team they are assembling they should water southern prem! Its all on how much is the cost of winning!!
