The commentators were singing his praises and a few fans said that he looked like a really good signing - better than expected. . One who had previously said some stuff based on a gas head friend’s words and said that he was much quicker than expected and had some great touches .i hope that he does well as I felt that he was much maligned here and was suited to a back 4. He got into some good attacking positions but never really looked like scoring which was his main weakness in my opinion.

Aren’t all trialists potential signings otherwise what’s the point of having them there?

Agree he is quick and nice and tidy on the ball but as a defender you must be able to defend.

I can't recall him putting one decent cross into the box, let alone ever look like scoring.

Dont think he had much pace. My recollections are of him receiving the ball , moving forward, then when confronted with an opposing player, stopping, turning round, passing it backwardsto one of the other defenders. Never saw him try to take a player on. Also, very weak and easily knocked off the ball.

I wanna see players take on their man, if if they get tackled. I want to see us showing ambition to score goals and a comfort in the opposition gaining possession as we know we will soon win it back.

I’ve only seen the Yeovil friendly so it’s hard to say but I feel a lot more confident about our full backs for the season to come than I did this time last year, we look stronger in that area. But time will tell. Good luck to Gordon for the season ahead. UTG!

We got that from Hunt when he was fit and Vale grew into the LWB role, even Hoole could take on his man but he lacked any end product. As fans we moan we'd sooner sign youngster or non league players than experienced journeymen but when one doesn't work out he suddenly can't tackle, can't take on his opponent etc, etc, when in truth he just didn't progress as much as we'd hoped he would.

Anyone got info on the ins and outs at Northampton? Obviously they are without Leonard this season - have they strengthened at all? Big game with a tough set of fixtures to follow....

Gonna answer my own question, forgot Transfermkt had this filter... www.transfermarkt.co.uk/northampton-town/transfers/verein/1302/saison_id/2024Basically some older lower leagued experience added, mainly in the CF position with Eaves and James Wilson.

FWIW: Ellery Balcombe played for St Mirren in their UEFA Conference qualifying match v Valur in Iceland last night. And kept a clean sheet. Well done to him, not too many can say they’ve played in a European competition, albeit the qualifying rounds against a smaller team.
UTG!

Sam Sherring to MKD, Leonard to Birmingham, and McWilliams to Rotherham are the big ones outgoing. They've brought in Tom Eaves, Callum Morton, and James Wilson for strikers. Cameron McGeehan, Jack Baldwin, and Nik Tzanev. Only Eaves worries me from their business, the rest are L2 level players.

Hope he has a good season reading the posts on here it makes you realise how much the game has changed and how our expectations of players has changed. I refer to comments like ' i never saw him take on and beat a man', look like scoring etc, so it seems we are expecting our 'defenders' to be Harold Jarman, Alfie Biggs , Wayne Jones etc.........!! I know I am very old fashioned but first and foremost I want our 'full/wing backs what ever we now call them to have a 'thou shall not pass' attitude and stop them either by getting ball or man!, having done that give the ball to those who can play a bit!, can't remember Doug Hillard, Vaughan Jones going past a man, though I do remember the former scoring from the 1/2 way line.! Accidently!) All this passing across the pen area and other dangerous areas scares me rotten ! saw loads of it at the euro's. Yet lesson 1 when young was 'never 'pass 'across pen area etc, ! For those who will lecture me about moving with the time I only mention all this to highlight how things have changed.

There again in this modern game how many tackles are made, not blocks but tackles? Old days used to be defender sees ball, goes for ball, does not see anyone else. So many, what used to be tackles, are now deemed fouls. I wait for the stats guys to come up with something.

On Lewis Gordon, League Two is probably his level. He's 5'7 and often targeted because of his height. I liked him, but he didn't offer enough going forward at this level. The club clearly think Mola is a much better upgrade, so we'll see.
