It's simply because I do not know anyone who doesn't have one. Elderly parents do/did elderly aunts do. Who are these people that don't have smartphones? www.careline.co.uk/technology/#:~:text=According%20to%202023%20statistics%2C%2080,(according%20to%202020%20figures). So, the people impacted are a % of the 20% of people over 65 that don't own a smartphone and go to a game either on their own or with another of the 20% of that age group that doesn't have a smartphone. Easy solution just offer cards free to s/t holders aged 70+ who require one?? Here is the solution: gofund.me/61c6a3c1

My 68 year old father, who doesn't own a smartphone, but has barely missed a home game in sixty years; specifically asked when renewing if he'd get a new card or if his current one would be reloaded. He was told everyone would be issued one with a new design (essentially to eliminate the possibility of someone who hasnt renewed turning up at 2.57pm with the 'old' card, claiming its a system error that they can't get and getting in for free because a queue is building up behind them and the turnstile operator not wanting to cause a scene). No mention of a cost involved.
Of course the clubs needs to modernise, but when we barely got close to a sell out last season, we need to be as inclusive as possible and not create barriers to entry and it's just an all round sh**ty look doing it this late on.
I get there's a cost to the club involved and I think a token £5 upon purchase would've been fine. I'm in my 30s and perfectly tech savvy, but usually print a paper copy when going to gigs/catching a flight so I don't have the anxiety of my phone battery randomly deciding to die, so I'd have happily paid this token fiver for a back-up; but it would stop the club losing money on those who trust their phones and would throw the card straight in a drawer never to be seen again.

Imo it seems the charge after the tickets have gone on sale and sold just seems a bit sneaky for those who don't use smart phones, if this was stated when they went on sale then everyone would know where they stand for some reason rovers just manage to f#@k things up and it makes the club look really unprofessional hopefully the club will learn from this but I have my doubts UTG

Laughing at others expense is not a nice trait. we are all different, have different needs and go about life differently, as I said before people without Smart Phones for whatever reason (and there are many) maybe in a minority but should be catered for. We must see beyond our own perspective in life.

I am assuming kids tickets will be sent to the appropriate adult and both saved in a google wallet or something. Presumably this can be done if you go with an older friend, relative etc.
obviously that is not a catch all solution.
15 quid is just a water take. If it were a fiver, I am sure there would be grumbles but most would just shrug and go okay.
I am still somewhat confused as to why the current cards (if you have one) can't just be re-activated. Maybe there is a reason, but it's not like it has been communicated as to why, just that they wont

I have already identified the group that I would like to concentrate on first and interestingly, that group hasn't been mentioned yet. I want to fund season cards for our disabled supporters. So chuck some cash in. Stop moaning on a forum and put your money where your mouth is.

This doesn’t affect most on here as we’re mostly going to be tech friendly. Shouldn’t stop us looking out for those who it will adversely impact.

I don’t know why they don’t go the whole hog , and start charging disabled people or women more for a season ticket, why just pick on elderly and people who don’t own a mobile phone. Seems like another own goal from the club the latest in a long list

Seems like another own goal from the club the latest in a long list From what I understand, they do charge a disabled person for a season ticket. However, the carer gets a free ticket (I believe).

If it is gaschat fact now that only 20 people want a card then how desperate a state the club must be to try and squeeze 300 quid out of loyalty.

This doesn’t affect most on here as we’re mostly going to be tech friendly. Shouldn’t stop us looking out for those who it will adversely impact. I think we will be paying for it either way. What I think is happening here is that the cost to the club for cards is probably pretty high. Lets say they are £3 each and the club has 5000 season ticket holders (yes, I know that is optimistic). Then that is going to cost the club £15k each season. However, if they announce that they will no longer provide them and those that want them will need to pay £15, that sets a line in the sand. I reckon out of this, 200 to 500 will be issued free of charge to the ones who do have a decent reason for needing a card rather than an e-ticket. Even if the cost per card is £10 (as they will no longer have any volume discounts), the club will save £10k. If they don't and its business as usual, they will need to fund that £10k from somewhere. That somewhere will be us. So we will end up paying for it anyway. We have already got used to £5.50 a pint. That will be £6 next season, I'm sure. Then there is the added benefit that for a mate to borrow a season ticket, they will need access to your google wallet or you give them access to your season ticket all season. So, less likely to happen this way.

I'm coming at this from a different angle, I'm under 40, very tech literate so having the tickets on my phone isn't an issue.
However I much prefer a physical card for a couple of reasons. One my card can't run out of charge, and secondly if I can't attend I can hand it over to a mate.
I suspect that second reason is a big driver for this, means if we have a big game I can't attend then my ST goes on the exchange and the club can make a few quid out of my seat on re-sale.

Has to be easier to lend tickets via a screenshot of the digital ticket than actually having to physically hand it over. Saves you fostering mine for half the season
