Sam Smith signed a 3 year contract in July 2023, when he returned to the Club. It will cost us money to get him.

Why do you think I posted it in CAPITALS?? Still odd we've had to offer a player just released by one of our L1 rivals a 3 years contract. Hopefully agents aren't doing us over as they know we have little experience in the recruitment department. You were shouting?

It seems to me that the owners are seeing every signing as an investment to our long term future. Maybe they believe that players we are signing have the ability to develop into something special and they don’t want to have to worry about them improving under MT’s guidance and then becoming free just as they reach their potential. If we have confidence in George Friend and his cohorts to unearth nuggets then why shouldn’t we sign them on long term deals ?

I wonder if Reading let him leave as they are in such a dire financial state, rather than not being good enough to warrant a new contract offer?

Sam Smith would fit in nicely with Jedward, Christina Aguilera and Chris Martin

Sounds like most Reading fans were hoping he’d stay. Apparently a big part of their improvement 2nd half of the season. Can play all across the back line too so another bonus.

Smith would be a fantastic signing, has the potential to be a 20 goal a season striker and still has his best years ahead of him.

I think there could be some truth in this as he was on £3400 a week at Reading, Still concerns me that though that if reading are willing to release him why would we offer 3 year deal. Could be another player on a longish term contract that is bang average and that is on a decent wage too!

Sam Smith signed a 3 year contract in July 2023, when he returned to the Club. It will cost us money to get him. On about £6k per week at Reading. We won't be paying that sort of money.

The forum I looked on, they were not bothered that he left. They all said, he was okay, but that they could do better. I never trust fans anyway🤣, on here some say a player is great and others say they are shocking🤣. He has potential, it's just the length of the contract that worries me. Especially as you can only have so many players in your squad.
