For those saying we “had our pants pulled down” what did our options look like?
Huddersfield had an earlier offer rejected and presumably came back with a best and final offer of £450k. I’d guess we sounded out other interested parties and their agents (Pompey and Birmingham widely reported and probably others?) to see if anyone was planning an offer - effectively trying to start a bidding war. Once it was clear there were no other offers at this time we had a few options,
1) Accept the offer which allows MT time to continue his squad rebuild bearing in mind preseason has already started and the season is little over a month away. 2) Call Huddersfield’s bluff, reject the offer and play a waiting game hoping someone offers more as the transfer deadline approaches, thus making MT’s planning in limbo. 3) Reject the offer outright and keep a player who we never paid a fee for but lose him at the end of the season on a free.
Personally, I think £450k was a bit light and was hoping for nearer £750k+. I think he’s one of the best two or three in his position in league one but at the end of the day he’s only worth what someone is willing to pay and at least we are avoiding a drawn out saga that will harm our preparation. I’d love to know what others on here would have done to get us a higher fee?

Over the Years we have always sold our players for next to nothing this is the reason I dont to to matches anymore Nothing changes does if Since the Bosman ruling we’ve brought in some very good players for little or no fee after they let their contracts run down so it works both ways. We got Aaron Collins for nothing after he run his contract down at FGR, he was instrumental in our epic promotion and won league one player of the year and brought us in £750k profit.

Probably had a release clause like the Snake. Wouldn’t be surprised - I’d have made sure one was included when signing the last deal if I were in his shoes!

My assumption would be 450k fee, appearance, assist/goals and promotion clauses in the contract.
I think this is best outcome for both parties, clearly Evo didn't want to be here after the Scouse contingent has all but dissipated.
Quality player for sure, but feel like it's a position which can be replaced.

Tough negotiators we are, for 5 minutes, before rolling over for our belly to be tickled and pants pulled down. Honestly, we should be used to this by now. No wonder it is 30 years since we last reached the League One playoffs.

Sure there’s some more City rejects out there to sign who are 30 plus and want to retire back to Bristol. Three year contract plus an additional year?

Reject that offer to start with. even if he ran out his contract its only £450k I reckon it’s might be 50/50 among the fanbase at £450k, There will be some who think he’s good enough to risk losing £450k on to keep him for another year - I’d probably be in that group if I thought the rest of our squad were capable of making the playoffs. I suspect we’ll be a mid table team and therefore better off cashing in at £450k (If that’s looking like the best offer) provided that money was given to MT to re-invest in the squad. I did notice one of our posters who has been quite vociferous about the size of the offer likely to be accepted is someone who spent most of last season criticising AE’s level of performance - can’t have it both ways!!! Same with Collins, he had plenty of critics and was dropped from the starting XI on occasions but people still wanted millions for him.

No wonder it is 30 years since we last reached the League One playoffs. Fans moan when we sell a player late in the window, then fans moan if you get it started at the start of pre season. We already turned down one bid and were in talks with a few clubs. We would have known roughly, what they were willing to pay. You're moaning, yet you have no idea what we have agreed. Personally I would rather get our squad sorted before the start of the season, then get an extra bit of money playing hard ball. I notice it was just after we went back, maybe we sat down with Evans and talked it through. Let's all throw our toys out of the pram though. Nearly 26 and had 1 fairly good season at League 1 level so far.

You do keep quoting that there is so much talent out there for next to nothing in cost, especially if a team looks further afield. Yet we should demand a club ups an offer of 450k for a div one player🤷♂️which way round is it? I think we’ve done a good deal. Let’s replace him for nothing, should be simple right?

Huddersfield Town could see a second transfer hijacked by Birmingham City as a League One midfielder is on the move. Birmingham are reportedly attempting yet another swoop under the noses of Huddersfield, this time to sign Bristol Rovers attacking midfielder Antony Evans.
Blues completed the acquisition of Alfie May from Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, hijacking the striker away from Huddersfield after the Terriers were in advanced talks. May, last season’s League One top scorer with 23 goals, has joined Blues on a three-year contract.

The deed is not done yet, maybe we are hoping accepting the Huddersfield bid will stir Birmingham into a last minute swoop like they did for Alfie May.

The midfielder they signed looks promising, the rest, time will tell and won’t judge until November, even two of the new coaching staff are ex City, sorry it grinds my gears.

Huddersfield are minted and we can only squeeze £450k from them for our best player? May as well just stick to being a top half L2 side as we clearly cant compete on or off the pitch in L1 anymore
