Our First six pointer of the season ..... Truly a MUST win game against a team that will be fighting to avoid the drop along with us possibly and six or seven others.
No way would I have Grant Ward in the starting line up - he has been awful so far - Midfield will be hugely important Saturday and we cannot carry Ward merrily along again - I would start Kofi Shaw as he is twice as enthusiastic with more tackling grit and energy.
Similarly LT needs to wake up and show what he can do in the attacking third - hopefully this week they have been working on his decision making and shooting !!
Its only Wednesday so hopefully as match day approaches I will feel more confident but at the moment I cant see a home win yet.

Time for this manager to get a tune out of his latest band members. Cambridge is definitely a bellweather moment, lets hope the Hutchinson Ward hype finally shows up and the gas go marching on. O ye after what I saw at Stockport last week JB would have definitely been a better option up front, hindsight hey, don't look back in anger .....

He’s playing as a wing back so can’t do huge amount when played out of position. Taylor’s stubborness will more than likely drop Thomas than admit he’s playing him in wrong position.

Need to be winning these types of games if we are to go anywhere this season. We were very lucky against a very bad Rotherham side at current. I’m not a huge fan of Taylor but I am a fan of Rovers so very much hope he can get a tune out of HIS side soon.

With all the forwards Rotherham have signed, how many goals have they scored this season? Wonder what their forums are saying.

Was told that JCH was guaranteed at least three hat tricks by now by the ITK’ers 🙄😂

MT will be consistent in his team selection for the first half dozen games. The players will also have been working on their partnerships and movement over the week so we should all expect continued improvement.
Going for a big gas win here.
Promise to net

Ticket sales look to be disappointing. Seems everyone was saying pre-season the team will take time and we need patience and too many now writing it off after 3 games! (with WDL). Imagine if we can get a big crowd and great atmosphere and do our bit. Ho hum, not football these days i guess. All needs to be instant gratification.

Could be any number of reasons for low ticket sales: 1) Cambridge aren't exactly a big draw for casual attendees 2) Those lucky to still be young enough to have school aged kids could be enjoying holidays 3) We've scored 1 league goal in 3 games and the football is duller than ditch water Still think we'll add two to that goal tally this weekend and win though. UTFG etc. 🏴☠️

Is it dull at ditch water though? Most fans will have only seen the opening home game. Decent performance after first half an hour getting used to each other. Lots of exciting debuts. 7 players scoring over 7/10. 13 shots. 5 on target. Last minute winner. 2 tough away games followed but most would have seen little other than the results. One good. One bad but not unexpected.
Take the point re hols but would have had more impact on first game than this one.
Let’s hope you are right. 2-0. UTG!

It's only 4 games though (excluding EFL trophy) and hopefully with time and work on the training ground (and fingers crossed a couple of creative and attacking additions) things will improve.

As I previously said on another thread and got shot down for , there seems to be a general apathy amongst the fanbase under Taylor. Not just that, we are being left behind by other clubs in terms of expanding our fan base and encouraging the younger generation. ( But it's ok we're doing it the man city way instead ) The football is crap and season ticket sales are massively down. Crowds were always going to be lower this season unless we suddenly start challenging at the right end. Unless we sign a goalscorer / or switch to a back four allowing our attacking players to attack I worry we will be at the wrong end of this table for the foreseeable.

Imagine if we can get a big crowd and great atmosphere and do our bit. Ho hum, not football these days i guess. All needs to be instant gratification. This always happens . If you look at our history . The first season back in leauge one 2017 9300 ( impossible to get tickets for some games ). Then 2018 8900 - 2019 8300 - 2020 7300. More recently first season back 2023 8900 - 2024 8100. This season with less ST sales and T.V coverage ?. I'm not justifying it but if fans feel that the bookies are correct and we will end up around 16th . It's difficult to sell STs and matchday tickets season after season. As you said percy " If the club does well I assume top 6 we could be getting gates of 10k ". That's the challenge !.

Our only home game so far this season had a crowd of 8529.
Last season under JB we had one crowd of over 8000 in his 6 games before being sacked - Wigan 8161.
All his other 5 games had crowds of less than 8000 and the average of those 6 games last season was 7703.
There seems to be a myth that JB attracted sell out crowds - certainly didn’t last season.

I wonder if more people are buying their tickets last minute this year. It seemed like there were lots left for Northampton but it ended up a decent crowd.

I think I'm right in saying our highest average attendance in a season was 2017 (9300) since early punk rock days of 1976.
We haven't averaged more than 10000 for nearly 50 years !.

You're overlooking the restricted capacity last season while the South Stand was being built. Not sure the attendances would have been much higher with the tend end, but probably a few hundred more each game.

And that's exactly why the kids season ticket prices shouldn't have been hiked up over 300%. There was never any scenario we were going to be selling out this year with a 12 k capacity. Even if we sat top of the league now we'd be lucky to get 10k. The support just isn't there. We'd only sell out for the run in if sitting in the top 6. There was absolutely no reason this season the club couldn't shift a thousand tickets out cheaply to children to attract a future fan base. Would have also increased the full price paying adults in attendance having to bring those children. Was a massive own goal by the club.

Definitely think this is the case, we lost a few I knew off the Northampton gate due to the 17:30 kick off and/or Sky Sports+ as well so 8500 wasn't too shabby. Ward has been most disappointing for me so far, get Shaw in for him Saturday and I think we'll look a different proposition imo. This squad will get better as season goes on as fitness and understanding increases, so hope we stay behind them. UTG
