Thoroughly enjoyed that today ….
Great performances across the team …..stand outs for me Taylor - Moore / Mola .
Soutiriou set the trend early on closing down the Cambridge back line and forcing the error.
LT was everywhere but needs confidence to shoot and help with his decision making when in dangerous areas.
Liked the look of Garrett and our front line is exciting with Shaq still to come.
Thought we controlled everything until McCormick and some of the other subs came on …. Rather than an injection of pace we lost the ball and were pushed back. I would have liked to see Shaw given the nudge instead.
This group of players have gelled well off the pitch and will only get better on the pitch as partnerships start to blossom.
Expecting another keeper in the next week or so …
Happy Days !

Solid all round team performance today with 4/5 standout’s. Feeling optimistic although early days still and with another 4/5 players ready to step in without weakening the team in any way. We have good depth and who knows a top 10 should be achievable. Well done Matt & George with your recruitment - I feel the building blocks are in place.

Luke Thomas immense today not just going forward but defensively too. I think RWB is his best position by far and where he should focus developing as a player. Really seems to excel with the space and driving us forwards. He was everywhere! Yep I totally agree, but why the feck doesn’t he shoot more? Could easily had a couple of goals today.

Grant Ward was everywhere, much better performance. Didn’t watch but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a top quality player Losing his engine though isn't he. A couple of times he was clean through and ran out of puff or the defenders caught up with him.

To be fair when he is top of his game, he is too good for us. Let's hope he has been pacing himself and the medical team are working their magic to get him to perform at his top level for 20 games a season rather than 5-6 times a season like last season.

Have to give a bit of perspective on today's result and performance with 2 tough games coming up now. Cambridge were dire and will be bottom 6.
I thought barnsley might get called off but Taylor confirmed after match that only conteh And Forbes missing so game on.
( Unless Barnsley postpone )

Where is the usual 20 page meltdown ?
I hate winning, it gives me so little to read 😀

Solid home win, seems like there will be more to come from this squad as they get to know each other better.
The back three continues to impress and great to see Promise off the mark. Also thought Conte was immense today, putting his foot in and protecting our back line. Garrett didn’t put a foot wrong either. Good competition between him and hutch for a starting place
Not sure about Cambridge, fair play they came to play and a couple of times carved us open and hit the bar at the end. I think they might scalp a few teams this season if they sort their attack out.
One of the better refs as well today.

They came to attack and not do the likes of a Shrewsbury. Our press on them was absolutely superb, in my opinion the best performance from a Rovers team for quite sometime.

Why do some expect a keeper to come in? Only happen if Griffiths is injured.

Why do some expect a keeper to come in? Only happen if Griffiths is injured. Presumably uncomfortable that we are going into games with no sub keeper because the only available backup is way below standard? I can’t imagine many teams out of the 92 don’t have a keeper on the bench every week?

Only just realised gibbons and korey smith were playing for them today as well. Didn't notice either all game.

Pretty certain however poor Hall is he would do a damn sight better job than an outfield player going in goal if anything did happen to JG during a match. There's also the issue the chosen outfield player may have already been subbed off etc and if he was still on the pitch at the time then we'd have to replace him in the team as well as JG rather than just bring on Hall.

Need to get some perspective on that today.
Cambridge were dire. And I mean dire.
They tried to play yeah but they had no physicality, no pace, no ball winners. There was time and space in almost every department and they showed no real fight or desire.
MT said that he wanted us to have a little more ability to retain possession in order to help us be more creative, yet despite Cambridge being so poor, they still dominated session with 64% overall, made DOUBLE the amount of complete passes, had a higher xG, made more passes on the oppositions half and hit the woodwork twice.
Now while I know as well as anyone else here that most of that means bugger all of you don’t stick the ball in the net so I’m not disputing the validity of the result, but we should be very careful when the underlying information shows we actually played no differently to Stockport away, Rotherham away or Northampton at home, but just came up against opposition who were nowhere near as good and so we enjoyed more success with our own contributions.
3 shots on target and 2 went in…1 of them a little fortuitously. Which isn’t much different to previous games in terms of output if not outcome.
I’m not dismissing the result or putting a dampener on it I’m just saying perspective and context is important if measuring the performance behind the result.

Just a quick thought. Apparently James Wilson will be called upon to go between the sticks if Griffiths gets injured or red carded. That probably means that he will never be substituted, and if he isn't in the starting line up. We will no doubt name a keeper on the bench.

I've just looked through the fixtures and that will be in the easiest 3 or 4 home fixtures we will have all season. Doesn't detract from what I thought was a decent performance from us with some very very good personal performances but Cambridge were poor. You can only beat what's in front of you though. Long way to go though. They may improve. I liked that Dan Barton who came on for them. He's got something about him.

I thought Cambridge were awful. Occasionally there’s a league 1 side that’s not a big club that tries to play out like a world class team would and it’s awful to watch and embarrassing and always ends up with the manager getting the sack or relegation or both. Clubs that spring to mind are.. Rovers under Garner Rovers under Barton ( league 1) Swindon the last couple of times they’ve been league 1 MK dons whenever they’re in league 1 To play like that at this level and make it work you’d need the best squad in the division and even if you had that you’d be better off mixing it up as we see every season the teams that are successful don’t play tippy tappy slow possession football it simply doesn’t work at this level.
