Any thoughts on how we should set up? Potential for a potent attacking force?

With Conteh unavailable due to international duty Griffiths Moore Wilson Mola Thomas Ward Garrett Bilongo Ruel Shaq attack Promise I was thinking this last night. I think this will be the way he will go on Saturday fitness pending. However I dont like ward playing deep like that he is much better in the advanced role like yesterday. Once contenh is back then he does have a selection dilemma as he'd have to drop ward for Shaq. Lovely position to be in though having these selection dilemmas.

There's no way is MT going to drop Ward, or any CM, for Shaq as we'd get over run in midfield and also create very little for the forwards
Shaq will have to replace Ruel, or Thomas if his form dips, perhaps that's why he had his best game of the season yesterday?
Hutchinson seems more of a dilemma as with all the yesterday''s CM's available and on form then you can't see him starting many games.

Think Garrett will drop deeper into the Conteh role. Ward and hutch or McCormick ahead?

With Conteh unavailable due to international duty Griffiths Moore Wilson Mola Thomas Ward Garrett Bilongo Ruel Shaq attack Promise Yep this is it for me. Shame we can't find room for Connor yet but we're defending so well so, if it ain't broke... I do think we'll see more of a 3-5-2 (Promise and Ruel) with an extra midfielder (IH, Macca etc.) away from home or against possession teams and maybe the 3-4-3 in games we should be favourites.

Think Garrett will drop deeper into the Conteh role. Ward and hutch or McCormick ahead? That's what I was thinking. You could throw Shaw's name into the mix as well, to play the advanced role. But I reckon, he will play Hutchinson. He will probably leave Forde on the bench for the first game. I'm predicting the one change.

I don’t like a back five and if MT was willing to switch to 4-2-3-1 this is how I would see our best XI in the longer term,
Griffiths
Senior, Moore, Taylor, Mola
Conteh & Garrett
Shaq, Thomas, Ruel
Promise

Harsh to drop Sotiriou after yesterday's performance or is he away with Cyprus?

Harsh to drop Sotiriou after yesterday's performance or is he away with Cyprus? On radio Bristol after the match Taylor said Forbes and conteh missing Saturday.

For this Saturday I’d be looking to go something like:
___________Griffiths ____Moore___Wilson___Mola LT__Macca___Garrett__Ward__BB _______Promise___Sotiriou
No need to change the back 3. Garrett takes up the Conteh role and plenty of energy either side of him in Ward & Macca to get box-to-box. Same wingbacks & front two.
Then Shaq off the bench to bring fresh legs when Sotiriou needs to come off.

Looked so strong until we switched to a 4.

How good does it feel to have selection debates with a squad full of talent!
And 5 subs to freshen things up 👌

Said from day one I’d have a back four and have never been a fan of five at the back - we’ve clearly done ok from our first four games but over the course of a full season I believe a back four will get us more points than a back five. Against a better team it becomes a flat back five and you struggle to get out of your half. I’d also have Connor Taylor over Wilson longer term but at the moment Wilson is deserving to keep his place. Going 4-2-3-1 would imo allow us to get the best out of our attacking players, especially if/when Shaq comes into the side. I’ve not been impressed with how we’ve set up in away games tbh, easier for our current formation to look good at home when we are playing some of the poorer sides in the division.

Yesterday's game was more than enough proof for most of us that we now suit 5 at the back and that Taylor seems to have also totally lost his form. Wilson's game also seems to deteriorate when he's not playing as part of a back 3. I'm not really sure how playing 4 at the back would have improved our attacking performance yesterday, regardless how poor we looked defensively when we did move to a back 4.

I’m not going to form my opinion on what I think will be the best formation for a whole season on the strength of a home game v Cambridge United, you can if you wish, it’s all about opinions. I’m not sure how successful five at the back has been in the tougher away games - I think we allowed the opposition about 20 shots in each game. We’ve got some good attackers and the best way to stop opposition sides getting shots on our goal is to play as far away from our goal as possible.

No point in including Conteh in your lineup predictions when he’s not available🤣

No point in including Conteh in your lineup predictions when he’s not available🤣 Sorry - I thought the thread was just about possible starting line ups now that Shaq has arrived and not a Barnsley build up. I expected that to come later in the week!!

I fully expect it to be a battle out of Shaq and Sotiriou to start alongside Omochere rather than trying to shoehorn them all into the same team. And then Martin plus the one who misses out to be on the bench. And if I am honest, I don't see O'Donkor as anything more than a bench filler whilst Martin is injured but I may well be wrong.
With injuries, loss of form, suspensions etc, none of our strikers are going to be available for the whole season and it is nice to have some real quality options for when that does happen.
