I can't see that this has been shared on here yet, but I found this chat with Wael who is being interviewed by a Reading fan. Really interesting to hear some of what had been going on since he took over.

He built a sort of stand and has handed the baton over to the new owners. Fair enough I suppose. Not quite what we all hoped for and what we were led to believe might happen but he propped us up financially for several years so we must always be grateful for that. It's just a little bit 'meh' compared to the expectations, based on what were virtually promises of a new stadium and promotion. But here we are as usual in League 1, in a dump of a stadium with only a tiny pot to p!ss in.

On the plus side, we are a division higher, have a new stand, new training ground and he covered our debts (also his mistakes, if some wish to be churlish).

Weal is a smashing guy and a great benefactor to rovers, but I always thought he failed to build on the momentum of back to back promotions and allowed the clubs fortunes to dwindle until we were again relegated. Maybe it was the promotion and the media hype at the time, but I think we all thought that the new stadium and championship were just around the corner. Never mind at least for that one small moment we dared to dream.

I doubt he had the financial backing needed from his family, when he did have a bit more money to spend the momentum had gone, leaving aside the terms of the deal the UWE were prepared to offer you do wonder where we might be now if had persuaded his family to back the stadium build.

I remember an interview with John Ward by Clem on Football Focus, it was the season before the relegation season, when we were having a great run.
In it I remember clearly as the UWE came up, he said "The difference this time is that it's definitely happening."

This and many many other failed stadium bids makes one doubt anybody will in future enter into stadium negotiations with Bristol Rovers.

They are always on our side, god luv 'em.👍

But if the UWE deal was as bad as Wael has suggested then perhaps it was a good thing it fell through anyway....

Just saw Liam Scales score for Ireland in Helsinki. Whatever you think about Wally, he is thick as mince.
