It might well have.. if Sainsburys hadn't pulled out of purchasing The Mem! But if the UWE deal was as bad as Wael has suggested then perhaps it was a good thing it fell through anyway.... Building a much needed second supermarket in Yatton …. It’s a bloody Sainsbury’s 🙄 Anyone else still boycotting them ? happily I’ve always been ahead of the curve on this one as my mum wouldn’t let any of us go near a Sainsbury’s in the eighties when they continued trading with South Africa during that whole apartheid malarkey

Supermarkets back then were renowned to be stock piling prime land, not particularly to build a shop. If I remember about the same time there was a government enquiry about supermarkets land grabbing. They are basically a land and property owner, same as Maccie D’s and the rest of them. Just happen to have a secondary income selling a few cans of beer, a lettuce or two and your Sunday lunch. Who knows what went on, Supermarket land grap in the media, Student accommodation at each corner not getting past planning. My guess nothing to do with a football club that happened to be on that patch of grass. Feel sorry for Higgs in the end taking out the old Wonga loan to go to court. Just sucked in by the much bigger picture. Same as I feel for Wael, great Ambassador, and I think genuinely wanted the best. But you cannot unless you have no debt and it’s all cash, build a brand new stadium on a fresh piece of land that suits everyone with an income that doesn’t support. As so many clubs have found ( I don’t like Arsenal) but they were in the Wilderness for years after building a new shiny palace, Tottenham ect. Then the ones who are still playing in a s:;thole, Portsmouth, Swindle, Old Trafford, Bournemouth 11k It’s squad investment and we have a pitch to play on that just about conforms to the rules. Or a Gin Palace and no squad, or more importantly the investment to attract local and older overseas players to a renowned football acadamy and first team set up. Someone very quickly just needs to make the decision football and promotion after promotion to attract revenue in a just about fit for purpose stadium. Or a Sparkling new building to attract outside of football events. ( Too late new Filton Airfield development). And hope that’s enough to buy a couple a players that have been missed. I not convinced we can do both at the same time. We will forever barring a lot of luck be doing the same thing over and over again.

I can't see that this has been shared on here yet, but I found this chat with Wael who is being interviewed by a Reading fan. Really interesting to hear some of what had been going on since he took over. Quite a few digs at the new ones, I think theres a few regrets there and he isn't sure how to get things positive again. We all could do with getting behind him as he has the Gas at heart, Kuwaitis seem only intersested in us as a plaything till they sell again. Need a bit of Bristol back in the club again.

After watching that through I have to agree about the digs at the new owners - indirectly, obviously. Interesting what he was saying about how he believes that lower league clubs don’t need CEO’s or DoF’s - new owners running before they can walk? Also the bits about keeping the fans in the loop and onside - he must surely be aware of the discontent around the fan base because the new owners are staying aloof. And the remarks about allowing the manager to manage the club. I wonder if there’s a buy-back clause in the contract with the al-Saeeds?

Must have been a challenge trying to square the circle of a sale. 1) I think he wanted to retain some ownership, which would have put some buyers off. He ends up having to accept the majority owners decisions AND fund his 40% share of losses. 2) He presumably wanted to recoup some of his purchase costs / equity injections, but wanted "the right" sort of new custodians. I'd like to hear the new owners views on what a custodian is. 3) I really wonder if he knew how much input / control the owners son would have ? 4) On an aside, he really did seem to "give the keys to the castle" to Joey and would have stood by him for a very long time.

Absolutely; moreover, I think that your point #3 is the key one - I’m not sure he would’ve gone ahead with it if he had any idea how much ASJnr would be interfering in the day-to-day running of the club and especially the 1st team (if the stories are true).

Who really cares, given that Wael seems to have sold us down the river as far the new owners are concerned and seems to have little involvement, if any, in running the club since the owners arrived.

Sorry if mentioned before. For the ITK, if this all turns out to be true, as he still owns around 40%? Will he sell up the rest to the al saeeds or is he just disappearing from an official role and holding some or all of his share still?
