Whoever has been manager over the past 30+ years success has been very limited. It appears no manager is capable of getting the club back into the second tier! To have been away from the Championship for over 30-years is atrocious. How many seasons were in the Championship, the last time we were there? That's the thing really. Fans see Rovers as a championship club. However, history paints a very different picture. Who? I’ve not heard a single fan ever describe us as a championship club? Many have hope that we could one day get there and that is no different to fans of any club outside of the Prem who dream of being higher up the pyramid. A much bigger proportion of fans are far more pessimistic and expect us to forever be in the bottom two tiers.

A city the size of Bristol, yet Rovers are residing in this ramshackle stadium with little or any confidence in the future!!

why is it when we reach a certain level of success we never seem able to build on it! surely it cant all be down to money, although in this day and age it does seem to be a big part of it.

Who made up this illusion of championship football and Bristol Rovers?. I been supporting the club since the Terry Copper days and we always been a 3rd tier side. We are a similar side to last few years of Eastville languishing around the bottom half of the 3rd division.
Were is this evidence we are well supported? A 92 football club average attandace puts GAS around 18th in the 3rd tier. If our attendances drop from 7600 then Donny and Carlisle will go above us and we will be around 20th. Even Chesterfield and Wimbledon average more than us .
This is backed up by pundits and bookies who always said we are a bottom 8 club. Yes Taylor is underachieving but talk of championship football is a bit like saying the social Democrats can win a general election!.

Rovers were in the second tier during the 1950’s, 70, early 90s.

You only have to look atvthe comment I was responding to: "To have been away from the Championship for over 30-years is atrocious." It's not atrocious, division 3 is where we have spent the majority of our time. We used to be able to say that we'd never been in the top or bottom divisions. Now I reckon we are close to having spent more time in division 4 than division 2.

Now I reckon we are close to having spent more time in division 4 than division 2. We dipped our toe into the Conference for a year. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be unreasonable for us to have expected us to have had one, maybe two seasons in the championship during that 30 year period? Having the odd dalliance in a higher division is way different than describing us as a “Championship Club” which I maintain I’ve never heard a fellow gashead claim.

Rovers were in the second tier during the 1950’s, 70, early 90s. But for how long? 3 seasons in the Championship in the last 45 years . I'm sure some teams in the national league like Oldham yeovil and Southend could match this. The truth is there is little progress since the days of Eastville in the mid 80s . Even now attandances have dropped nearly 2000 and we average similar to top 8 division two sides ( tier 4).

At least we got there on those occasions, unlike the past 30+ years of absolute mediocrity.
