Wonder why it's the penultimate game - presumably it's the maximum length of loan? Hope we get the extension, we're going to be very lightweight without him

Well we signed him on the 13th January but his first game was on the 17th. 93 days takes us up until the 16th April with our penultimate game being away to Dover on the 18th April. So I'm guessing that his loan didn't officially start until that first game as otherwise we would be over 93 days! Just imagine if he wins us the league or something in that Dover match! Clarke really would be a genius!!!

DC actually said he will try to "engineer the extension" so it would include the Dover game.

Reminds me of the carayol situation. We were literally toothless without him. Comes as no surprise to me that we have started this good run with LDV and ended with Dawson. Without that flair we would be midtable.

So I guess we would not have him for the play offs if we had to go down that route? Which makes finishing top even more important now!

What is his own position? I don't have that good a memory. First game I remember him playing was right wing!

The way he's playing CM could become is natural role? I
If we did fall into the Play Offs then losing Dawson could be a massive blow particulalry if we got to Wembley, although perhaps it's set up for SS to make himself a real hero by returning for the final?

Personally I would like a winger and central midfielder to be signed by the close of the loan market which would cover us for the Play offs if necessary. Dawson is our only out and out winger and to enter the Play Offs without one would severely weaken our chances.Winger and central midfield is the only areas we look short.

I disagree - unfortunately I don't believe Tom's distribution is good enough to ever be a truly decent midfielder. Time is of course on his side, but he's passing is very poor at present. Don't get me wrong, I like Tom and he has many strengths and brings a lot to the team; unfortunately though, passing isn't one of them.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tom and he has many strengths and brings a lot to the team; unfortunately though, passing isn't one of them. I agree and disagree with this, really. Firstly, I agree that his distribution (on the whole) often leaves a lot to be desired. This has been the case both at RB and CM. However, on the radio it sounded as if Lockyer made some really nice passes against Gateshead, and the commentators actually highlighted the fact that Tom had played a few midfield splitting balls to feed the strikers and wingers. Secondly, his poor distribution is highlighted and exposed more in a 4-4-2 than it would in other systems, IMO. When you're one of a central midfield pairing, then the onus is on both of those CM's to be fairly comfortable on the ball and able to feed the attacking players with passes. However, if he were to play in a 4-3-3 for example, with him being the most defensive of the 3 CM's, then his primary role would be to break up play and mainly feed the other more advanced CM's with simple passes. E.g Leadbitter__McChrystal__Parkes__Brown _________________Lockyer ___________Mansell_______Sinclair ____XXXXXX______XXXXXX____XXXXXXX In a system like that, the qualities he does have to his game would be perfect to play as a defensive CM and would be balanced out by the two more attack minded CM's either side of him. But I agree that in the 4-4-2 we often play, he can be exposed on the ball at times.

Playing mostly 4-4-2 as taken us to top of the league, including 5 straight wins, I can it's wise to start tinkering now, whilst there's always this talk about TL's lack of passing ability apart from the Gateshead match how many defence splitting passes has SS made this season?
