C0ck Sparrer probably formed about 72 but they did split for a while in the late 70s early 80s. Not pure punk, could be described as the first Oi band but there wereother rock styles as well

A lot of the Reggae and dub influences on punk bands prior to the emergence of full on ska and two tone.
Best known would have to be Bank robber by the Clash.
Johnny Was by SLF was a good one too.

Yes I was only thinking that some of their earlier stuff sounds like it could have influenced Oi.

Excuse my age, but what is an Oi (?) band? Oi was a term coined by gary bushell as he tried to unite all the street punk and skinhead bands, he used the term as it was a song Oi,Oi,Oi by the cockney rejects, a lot of the early Oi bands were singing about the terraces and life as working class kids, they were also in firms, chubby chris from combat 84 was with the chelsea head hunters, cockney rejects were with the icf , roi pearce who sang with the 4 skins and is still with the last resort was aligned with millwall, ,but asides from the songs about football fighting a lot of songs were relevant to the time politically as well , anjelic upstarts sang about police oppression and police murder as well as a lot of other political stuff, 2 from them to listen to are police oppression and the murder of lidlle towers, combat 84 sparked the southall riots as they were falsely accused of being a right wing band, the song sorry is a reaction to the press blaming the band for all sorts of sh**. other bands include slaughter and the dogs ,good song is where have all the bootboys gone, the buisness classics include suburban rebels and the singalong drinking and driving, co ck sparrer with songs like running riot, where are they now, riot squad, chip on my shoulder(reference to football fights) 4 skins ACAB worth a listen as are most of their songs. still listen to stuff almost daily especially the last resort one of the best compilation albums ever made for Oi was called Strength thru OI, but bushell really f-ucked up on that one as at the time all skinheads and Oi were labelled rather falsely as right wing. Would have mentioned sham69 but theres not a lot of love for pursey in the skinhead world theres so much i have missed out, and a bit ive probably got wrong

I grew up as a Motown/Soul man. I haven't a clue as to what is being spoken about on here. If I want to listen to some 'heavy, fast' music, I put the Eagles on.

Actually quite like The Clash but remember the shock/horrow of a young Clah fan when I told him his favourite song, ' I fought the law,' was written and first performed by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets (Yes,Buddy Holly's old band)

I know opinions are like arseholes, in that we've all got one, but there are some famous big name bands and singers out there who are basically utter shoite ! U2 - I would kill each and every one of them with a 2lb lump hammer. Coldplay - Utter utter drival. Saw them live after being dragged there screaming and kicking by a top-notch blonde. Meatloaf - Imagine my delight when taken out on a 'surprise date' only to find myself at a Meatloaf concert. I lost the will to live. Dire Straits - The name says it all, Dire ! Who are the bands/singers you love to hate ? U2 were and arguably still are the best live band in the world.I saw them live three times when they did The Joshua Tree tour and they were simply superb. Those were the days, I purchased my tickets in Virgin Records Broadmead for each concert at a cost of £12.50 per ticket. The cheapest ticket to see U2 in October at Londons o2 arena is £188. Just to cheer you up nobby here is the day when U2 became the best live band in the world 30 years and one day when they performed at Live Aid 13th July Wembley Stadium. enjoy
