Thought we were much the better team in the first half and unlucky not to be a goal or 2 up at the break. We put some really nice moves together, had plenty of corners and goal attempts but couldn't quite find a way through. McChrystal should have scored after 5 minutes and Bodin was very unlucky with his shot off the under side the bar just before half time.
Second half was a bit more even - Notts started stronger, Rovers finished stronger - but I still think we had the better chances.
County definitely seemed delighted with a point and I guess you'd have to say it was a well executed away performance.
Looks like Newport might be turning the corner after a very impressive 2-0 win away at Wycombe but a similar performance to last night and I'm confident we can pick up the 3 points.

As far as 0-0 goes, this was a decent game of football. Did everything but put the ball in the net. Bodin, Easter and I think Mansell with a free kick in the first half were unlucky not to score. Second half County played better as opposed to us becoming less effective, they were awful first half apart from their no 33, Stanley Amomba who was excellent throughout, what a midfielder he is. Would love him in our colours. Thought Bodin and Gosling were excellent last night, Mansell, Leadbitter, Lockyer, MM, Easter and Harrison all looked good. I didnt quite understand the half time sub of Harrison, him and Gosling were doing well down the left, Taylor was a bit in and out of the game. Montano was terrible when he came on. Bliss, well, what can you say, League football isnt for him. I dont think he will make it sadly. When Taylor who didnt do a great deal looked better then you have to assume that he will be moving on in Jan. Thought it would have been better to bring on Lines for Sinclair to add the quality dimension to the midfield. Maybe try and unlock their defense with a good ball, or take advantage of some of the set pieces we had last night. A couple towards the end was Lines territory. This is what Sincs doesnt have to his game. Couple of notes of interest from last night, sat next to one of the NC directors who was a lovely old chap, told me that Roy Carroll and Alan Smith play for them for free. Not even an appearance or bonus either, Smith said that he likes the club was local and due to his big money successes elsewhere didnt need anything else but to play first team football. Carroll gets a wage from the Irish FA so doesnt want one at club level. Thought fair play to them. He also thought that Gosling and Leadbitter were our standout players and asked where they came from. I do believe that Gosling should play in the middle as he is now in my opinion our most creative midfield player. Bodin has individual flashes of skill which are great but sometimes seems to lose concentration and give the ocassional silly ball away. Just a question about your idea - how many aerial challenges and tackles will Gosling win in central midfield ? Or are you hoping Mansell and Sinclair will do all that ?

Don't forget that Blissett is still finding his feet at this level. Good to see him written off already!

Bliss couldn't find his feet if he was putting his boots on. He's good for comedy value and seems like a nice bloke but I can't see it as anything other than a situation were we need to loan him out to get his wages off the books until his contract expires. Dunno how long his contract is for though.

Don't really think Blissett worried anyone when he came on. He worried me but that's only because his contribution to the game made us less likely to score...

Just a moot point we have played 6 league games at home this season and failed to score in 5 of them. What is the cause of this? Is it our strikers aren't good enough, the service isn't good enough a mixture of both or are we set up to counter attack and that doesn't work at home because that is the tactics most away sides employ,or more contentiously is DC afraid to thrown too many players into attack preferring to stop the opposition and get a draw? Discuss

Discuss We're scoring goals away from home for fun atm, so I can't imagine it's a case of the strikers not being good enough. IMO we haven't been creating anywhere near as many chances in our home games as we have away from the Mem, and that is the issue. Unless Bodin is on song I'm not sure we have the creativity in the side to break down a team that defend deep against us at home, whereas away from home the opposition come onto us and we have more space to play into behind the other side's defence.

Exactly as I see it. We play at home like we're away. County pushed up and pressured us more than we pressured them and it would have been hard to tell who was at home for a neutral. We played ok and I'm reasonably satisfied with A point but it does seem like DC s style is more suited to away games and we need to try something a bit different at home. 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 we still sit back deep and look to counter and if we're at home the majority of sides will do the same and there will be plenty of home draws like last night or 1-0s either way.

Agreed we're back tor relegation season of littlereativity on the wings, Gosling isn't a winger and Montano is struggling, so it's just Bodin or the wing backs creating anything. if we're going to play 4-4-2 we need another winger or two.

2 decent wingers in January and we can get top 7. Where's Dawson and LDV I'd love to see them back I thought they were both quality and played a big part in last seasons promotion. Montana looks awful to me and Bodin looks good but isn't he a bit injury prone ? If you play 4-4-2 then you need 4 wingers in your squad or at least 4 players who can play there well. We're strong in defence strong through the middle of midfield and decent up front the winger situation is the last peice of the jigsaw which is a side that can win promotion, and last season aside has been a problem for us for years !

Agree with the wingers, but watching last night I was impressed how far we have come in the last yr we look quicker and the passing sometimes is promotion standard, for me we def need a 20 25 a season striker who always on the last defender are strikers come too deep and leaves nobody up there
