Playing devils advocate before people get too carried away, but are people confident Gaffney is the answer?
He's had a couple of good games and against Orient worked his nuts off, but I can't help but feel every time we get excited by a loan signing extending or becoming permanent that they end up disappointing! Could we have seen the best of Gaffney and it go downhill from here? Is there a better option available?

Would be a bit daft to send him back and sign a complete unknown.

Some players can have an initial effect that can wear off for whatever reason but it is hard not to be impressed by him so far. If we can sign him on a free then he looks an excellent signing.

Of course they're better options, he's not the best player in the world.

I don't think any one player is, or should be, 'the answer'. Gaffney is clearly an excellent option as part of our strikeforce, and when used as part of the squad he's been excellent. Provides something different, whilst having quite a bit of pace and trickery for a 'big man'.
Did well at Limerick - PoTS a couple of seasons, around 50 odd games and scored goals consistently in his last season (no other stats re: his goals which is unfortunate). Good scoring record at FL level, albeit only with a handful of games.
Most encouraging thing for me is room for improvement. Not necessarily going to happen, but lots of players from the Irish League take a bit of time to show their full potential and get used to English football. Look at our own Michael Smith for example, who was fantastic in his second or third season with us whilst taking a while to settle in. Gaffney may have just adapted quicker, or we could have a lot more to come.

Almost certainly, however Gaffney is settled and therefor an attractive option. We could go for another striker, he may be a better player, it may not work, whereas Gaffney is here and doing well.

Could we have seen the best of Gaffney and it go downhill from here? Is there a better option available? Could we have seen the best of Gaffney: He scored two of the best goals you are likely to see this season that will take some beating Will it go downhill : I can't see him doing that every week Is there a better option : Not for us at this time imo.

Could we have seen the best of Gaffney and it go downhill from here? Is there a better option available? My answer is that if DC want's him here then he's a pretty good answer to at least one question that needs answering...

Does he improve the squad? Is he likely to get game time? Will he fit in to the team ethos and not upset the team spirit?
Yes to all three. That is what you want out of your January signings.
Even when he's not on top of his game he puts a shift in. So he is the answer to the question "is Rory Gaffney one of the players we should add to the squad for the run in"

Gaffney is better than Blissett and therefore improves the squad, even if he were to go off the boil to the extent he was no longer first choice. That said, if he maintains the level of performances from his loan spell, he will be first choice (alongside Taylor).
Gaffney gives us an extra dimension and it's no surprise we've looked a better team with him in it. Both his goals against Orient were proper striker finishes too, so he looks like the complete package (as complete a package as is possible for a League Two footballer).
I really hope he joins us permanently today (and in a dream world, on a free transfer, therefore pretty much eradicating any real risk in signing him).

No need to worry about this, if he joins us and fails it will be a NH signing if he works out it will be a DC signing. Simples !

I like Gaffney and would like to see him sign, but is anyone else wondering what effect sitting on the bench is having on Harrison?

He isn't the answer for Ellis or Jamie. But as mentioned, he is an improvement on bliss so....
