I am and always have been one of DC's biggest fans but yesterday was shocking.
Seen the team sheet, and couldn't for the life of me understand playing 4-4-2 against a Portsmouth side who are the best footballing team I have seen this season. I was sure DC was going to go into it with 3-5-2, pack the middle, keep things tight and go for it 2nd half ( a bit like away to Exeter or Oxford). Instead he seemed to choose a disjointed 4-4-2 side with no real game plan other than to hoof it on the rare occasion we won the ball.
Mansell on the wing? What the f**k was that all about? To me Lawrence so far is DC's worst signing. Hopefully he will prove me wrong over time but putting him in the middle was the reason Mansell was shoved out wide. He was so ineffective, I barely noticed he was playing to be honest.
Then the sub, taking Mansell off, I couldn't understand. At a time when we needed leadership and cohesion, we bring our only real leader off when I felt Lawrence should have been subbed and Mansell put back in the middle.
People have slated DC starting Easter over Taylor but in fairness I could understand that as Taylor hasn't been at his best lately. Shame Easter wasn't up to much though, especially when he completely missed the ball when taking a shot.
We were outplayed and outbattled. Probably the worst performance I have seen under DC. Definitely up there anyway. Pompey are a decent footballing outfit but we let them play round us, didn't get tight enough. We lacked quality most definitely, Pompey looked about 2-3 divisions above us at least (no exaggeration) but the most disappointing thing yesterday was we just didn't seem to want it enough, which in fairness is unusual for us these days.
