Opinions on since joining us permanently?
I actually really like him because he works hard but he really needs to be adding more goals to his game or at least look more likely to score. I think the amount of goals Taylor and Bodin have score in particular have masked Gaffney's lack of goals. Like I said, I really like him and he creates space for others but just needs to add more goals. 3 goals his 17 games since joining permanently.

He's still adapting to English League football. I think he has the potential to be one of our best signings.

I see him as a link/target man so wouldn't expect more than 10-15 goals tops which I think he would have got had he been with us all season.

Going off on a bit of a tangent I know...but I met a load of his mates pre and post match on Saturday, that had come over from Ireland for the game.
They all said that he absolutely loves the Club and the Fans and is really enjoying his time here.
I think, given time, Rory will become a top player.... just needs to get that bit of confidence back imo.

He clearly had a purple patch over the Xmas loan period, just being given a chance is sometimes enough to galvanise goals
Since return from injury he hasn't quite looked the same deal and usually only plays an hour until Harrison and /or Easter freshen things up
He's a bit of a talisman and I think I'd agree that we can expect 10-15 goals , a decent return from what appears to be a decent hard working lad

I don't think he's really a target man. He's best with the ball into him, yes, but not lumped at head height. Also, he's not been dangerous from crosses at all, yet people still scream at him to 'get in the box!'.
What he does well is link up with the midfield, run the channels and draw the space for Taylor. We've seen he can finish well, so I think its a case of getting into the right positions for him to increase his goal tally.

He brings so much more than goals. His movement opening up space for others and ability to not only hold up the ball, but do something useful with has been the difference in our team for me. Some of his cross field passing is exceptional for someone who falls into the target man role. Top man Rory, and thanks for holding out for a transfer. Easily made an improvement to us.

He has been a bit unlucky - what about that shot in the first half on Saturday - no way the Daggers goalkeeper should have saved it, but he did! There have been several others like that as well. Like the oft-criticised Matty Taylor (not by me!) you need to take into account ALL his play, not just the goalscoring and he causes a lot of problems for opposing defences. After pre-season training under Marcus, I think he'll be a lot better next season and will handle the step up a league well.

Congratulations first of all to you all, some achievment to get back to back promotions.. Needless to say since Rory signed back in Dec i ( along with most of the people in his hometown of Tuam) have been glued to your promotion push. On Rory i do think ye had got the makings of a really good player. He is still learning his trade and hasnt played a full season as a pro yet!! The run he has got under DC has really helped and i think with the break now and a serious pre season and also knowing that he is secure for another year will bring him on further. He never got a break with Cambridge and spent nearly a year out after signing with injury.. Anyways onwards and upwards , really looking forward to next season, definately hoping to make my first trip over to the memorial to sample the delights!!

It's no secret that Matty Taylors best return of goals this season came after Gaffney arrived. As others have said he brings so much more than goals.
Moving onto next season, I fancy he could be our top scorer and could lead the line like Taylor has this year. Let's hope he puts real fear in league one defences.

Exactly this, he brings so much more to our overall game, I saw a stat on fb just now that before he came we lost something like 7 games at home and after he arrived we didn't lose a game and won 12, I know this is over simplifying things but I honestly think that he does open up so much space for others with all his hard work harrying and chasing. Also as has been said with a full pre season behind him I think he can just get better and better and think he will play a very big part in our season next year.

You mention what most of us forget, that he hasn't played a full season as a pro, the player I see plays and looks a seasoned pro, personally I think his potential is enormous and will become a very important player for us

Rory will come good he will soon start scoring which will add to his all round game what a bloody handful he will be in Division One where he should have more time and space

A Ted at the game on Saturday singled Rory out as our most influential player and said he would love to have at the Sh1t as a perfect foil for Cod piece

You get less, it's just better players create time and space by having a better first touch and better movement. I do agree that Gaffney is only going to get better though. He's a handful and even when he's not scoring, his workrate is top class and always contributes

i like him lots, love his diagonal runs, neat little chest offs to oncoming team mates and though hes quite a big man hes quick and is always looking to get behind opposing defences which defenders hate. on the down side hes not a big threat in the air and seems to be a 75 minute player not a 90 minute one but he can still improve im sure.

Feel he was the missing ingredient which helped us to promotion but he really needs to improve his goal tally, the header he missed in the first half on Saturday was a shocker. We also need to sign competition for the CF role, although with Easter &, I assume, Harrison here next season then if Taylor also stays it's not clear when budget DC will have for another striker.

He got 8 in about 20, so was probably on course for about 15 -20 in a season (that would be excellent and his all-round contribution on top too!). Hope Gaffney and Taylor are here to start our first game in L1
