I'm 110% gas and absolutely 0 % England. I drew them on sweep stake and am gutted. Can't understand the buzz of waiting 2 years for a tournament and waiting months for pointless friendlies and pathetic opponents in qualifying rounds. This B team crud is only igniting my hatred and anger towards a team of whoevers. Is it just me.

And it's not a patriotic thing. I watch (on telly) and love England cricket team. It's a football thing.

And it's not a patriotic thing. I watch (on telly) and love England cricket team. It's a football thing. I think the Premier League has divided opinion regarding the national team: I am English, so always want to see them do well: However, they have underperformed so (too) much to expect anything remotely positive from them. I am originally from Romford so have a very strong affinity with West Ham: In fact, I have a season ticket for them for next season (as well as one for the Rovers). The lore linked with West Ham/England is something I cannot ignore: So although I feel the England team will still prove a let down, I am still fervently hoping they do well. Having said that: When I was at a very young age (13) when England won the world cup and wanted to watch and be involved with anything football related (football was very rarely on TV in those days) I did not watch tonight's game as I had something more important to do. So maybe it is an age thang; whereby youngsters have not had their belief in the England national team being the best football team in the world being challenged because they watch the Prem every week and think there is nothing to beat it whilst not realising too (so) many of the players they are watching are not English, or even Welsh, or Irish.

I think you are right there. As I get older I care less and less about England. Partly because of the minority of morons who go to the games and embarrass us on a regular two or four year basis but mostly because of the constant let-downs from the playing squad. Not their fault they are over-hyped every tournament (although some players do have an over-inflated opinion of their ability) - just a bit embarrassing that some players who are often carried in their premier league teams by playing with quality foreign imports get found out on the world stage time after time when they don't have that crutch to fall back on. The system (ie premier league) definitely bears some responsibility for that I think. But as time goes on my interest in Rovers has only increased whilst my interest in England has definitely waned.

I think in a large part we are the only home nation not allowed an identity, if we fly a St Georges cross we are told we are jingoistic little Englanders and at worst racist right wingers, the Scottish flag is hailed as showing your love of your country and are encouraged to put on the old ABE T thirt, the Welsh all think they can sing and wave leeks and daffodils at any one they fancy, they are called lovers of the country, the Irish, stick a silly big green hat on and we are all supposed to love them because they are such fun. We will never be as fond of our team as we used to be because to be honest so many people in this country don't want to offend the rest of the World. In a nutshell we will never feel the same about our team as we are conditioned not to.

I always use the "Other" box on those ethnicity forms and write English next to it.

That's strange. I never really cared about England that much. Then when I moved to Australia I found I was more interested in England again. I dragged myself out of bed at 4.30 this morning to watch the game. Despite drinking too much homemade cider last night during the rugby. I felt rough all day, until I opened a beer. Two beers in, I'm beginning to feel good again.

When England scored last night there was a fairly ironic cheer in the pub I was in. I just can't imagine going as nuts as we all did on the last day of the season for rovers if England win the World Cup final... I feel like I want them to win but I just can't identify with the team as I don't really know them.

If we got to a final feelings would change and if we won and got a day off work we'd all take it. C'mon England!

The Arsenal/Vardy situation summed it up for me.
Arsenal throwing their weight around and demanding a decision from Vardy a week before a major tournament for his country.
Like feck would this have happened 20 years ago.
Luckily I read somewhere Hodgson told Arsenal to back off and let Vardy concentrate on what he should be concentrating on.
You only have to watch clips from Euro 96 (eg shearer's documentary the other night) where the hairs on my neck were regularly standing to attention, to see how much we have fallen out of love with the national team.

When I watch the gas weather it was at Eastville, Twerton or the Mem there is a great passion, watching England always has to me felt less intense, I'm neither angry when they lose or overjoyed when then win, it's a shame really but years of under achieving means you never expect too much.

What's the betting the whole of England will come to a stand still if we get the the semi's and if we get to the final? A guess watching your international team is never going to be the same as supporting your local club but it still doesn't stop you supporting them, although I certainly wouldn't risk watching them live in an International tournament!!

Fully support the England team, but get a feeling that the FA are clueless, a bunch of well off old timers with their heads up their arses, who think they're the reason there's money in the game.

You've just got this now! The FA are London centric with the premiership as their cash cow. They delayed Burton 10 years because they wanted to move it to London. They should have built the national stadium in the Midlands when they demolished Wembley.I have no time for those imbeciles.
