I wonder if the kit will turn up in time for Scunthorpe away Lets hope the team turn up first game of the season, cant remember many first games where we have put in a good performance. Probably best i can remember is over at twerton when we came back from three down against ipswich, mr dobson in charge briefly from what i recall. Did you go to Brentford first game early 80s when Rovers lost 5-1 ? that and the 1-4 at Eastville against Blackpool was the worst first day results that I remember.. best was a 3-0 or 3-1 against Fulham......

No thankfully missed brentford, it just seems that we always start slowly, im like a kid on christmas day till 3pm then by 5pm im as flatter than a witches tit, as my mate used to say. will gladly take a point from scunny even if i cant be arsed to travel all the way there these days.

Yes a point at Scunny would be a good one, they weren't far off the play offs, I don't like the newer grounds but I am going as its first game. Back in the day Rovers had usually played at least one League cup game before the first League game,I got some bad memories of those games too....and I don't even want to think about the Anglo Scottish cup !

It's not later than usual yet It is by a week? Seems the club want to make a big thing of it by the presentation at the Open Day, but given that's on a workday for most of us, I would imagine that will be lower key than most seasons. Still think it's bizarre going to Sabadell without the quarters. Pretty sure we'd think it was a bit disrespectful if Sabadell came here pre-season and played in their training tops! surely one team won't be wearing blue and white quarters? So something was going to have to give anyway. Surely the questions we should be asking are: 1) Why isn't home kit available for fans to buy and wear over there, and/or even the team to have 20 of them to ceremonially wear at some point on the tour? [maybe they will... who knows] 2) Why isn't a new away kit available for the team to wear, instead of training tops? [maybe they will be... who knows] 3) How do the sponsors feel about all this, including 2 home games against higher league opposition, with 10,000 present, media coverage etc?

If Sabadell turned up at the Mem for a friendly, as guests of ours I would expect to allow them to play in the quarters.
Seems a bit pointless to go and see our foreign cousins and have them turn out in green and black stripes, or something.
So I am guessing that they will expect to see our version of the famous quarters on display, not some poxy training kit.
I think it's a bit insulting to our hosts, to be honest.

The ground is 28 years old !........the first of the new build stadiums I think (?) ...I think BRFC were probably touting building at mangotsfield back then.....scunny are looking to move to a new stadium now.....surely they can't build a second one before rovers even build a first ! Haha

Haha The first 'new ground' scheme I remember Rovers coming up with was Hambrook, that was mid/late 70s,was it Mangotsfield after that ? or was there another one in between ?. I think that Scunthorpes was the first new league ground built for many years but I might be wrong, be interesting to see who gets a new ground first.

I remember a site that was where H.p. built their place / mod abbeywood area ....used to be a rubbish tip I think ?.......but that didn't get far (was that what you refer to as hambrook ? ) ....probably just a short walk from the uwe site. That's the first one I heard of....that's not to say there were not earlier ones but before my time. Carson's Rd mangotsfield near the golf course.....too dangerous to build around there due to old coal mines was the given failure reason Severnside....Easter Compton........failed due to...ERM....flood plain, near to chemical factories, too far from Kingswood or some other lame excuse no doubt. Cant think of other ones off the top of me head. But we were told there were no suitable sites in the greater Bristol area to build a stadium.

I think it's explained in the link in the OP, basically Rovers seem to went to make a big PR excise out of announcing the new kit on the Open Day, I just wonder how many fans will actually turn up, on a working during the summer holiday season anyway. Plus at least 500 will have had the week off before to go to Sabadell.

The connection with Sabadell occurred purely via fan initiative iirc. This trip is about the fans and they will be there in numbers wearing the quarters and I'm sure will still have a bloody good time regardless if they have the latest shirts or not.The club have lost a bit of money yes,but it's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things imo.

Regarding your second point, it is pre season so technically their sponsorship won't have started yet I imagine.
