He would be in his early 60s now I think, I could imagine him in a coaching role still, he was a clever bloke and he put some lovely passes through for Paul Randall plus he had a hell of a shot....happy memories. Am I correct in remembering that he was originally a school teacher and played part time for rovers ,before finally going full-time...or did I make that up ? Pretty sure that you are right... We were talking on Saturday about the South Wales Rovers players back then, some good lads.

He went full circle and finished up back as a taxi driver in, I think, his home town of Cardiff!

Well put. But it's not just this forum. In this instant world something is either great now or needs complete change! No time is taken to reflect upon and improve, no looking at the bigger picture. Fortunately I think DC and Wael do reflect upon things, and seek to improve gradually so I think our club is in good hands. That the players over the last few years have improved show the quality of the managerial team at Rovers and I feel quite confident. I was sat in the Scunthorpe main stand and saw DC with MS and Steve Y during the match and felt that it showed a good, calm approach to things. Forums on the other hand....! Being an old git who has followed Rovers for over 50 years I feel I have seen most things and our current position with the personnel we have is the best overall in that time. Long may it continue. Better than Megson, Francis, David Williams ? I started going to games when Williams was manager and that was the best football I've ever seen us play. Such a gutting thing that he left. Yes better than that time. My point was that our current position with the owners we have give us a much better chance of success overall. The new ground is a much more likely proposition now than ever it was, even if it takes more time to plan, implement and finally achieve. Yes those managers you mention were very, very good as was Bill Dodgin and Bert Tann's teams. But the owners then put up with the status quo and were never likely to achieve a new ground. Now, we have a chance to make us the club that we all want to be. Dodgin's team played the best football by a Rovers team I ever saw and Megsons team of 1973/4 was the hardest team to beat and the most consistent team I've seen in a Rovers shirt, more so than this team. But with the owners' potential to spend to achieve a new ground, improve the infrastructure of the club in terms of youth development and training facilities makes the place Rovers are at now the best potentially they have ever been. Of course, potential has to be realised, fingers crossed! UTG!

I went to Univ with one of his best friends and met DW once playing kick about football. Nice guy, was a pt teacher and footballer before turning full time with Rovers. What this thread has shown is what good managers we had through the 60s, 70s and early 80s and what dross fans have had to put up with since the turn of the Millennium (PT excluded) until DC came along. When you see what we had in those good times and what we've had since 2000 (until DC) it's really depressing how it was allowed to happen. Pretty sure these owners won't allow that to be repeated.

Although I started watching during Bobby Gould's first tenure, it is the David Williams team that I recall most fondly from the Eastville days and could still name the line up now. The team included Neil Slatter and Georgie Williams from the Welsh Nursery. We finished 6th two seasons running so sometimes wonder what may have happened had play offs been around then.
